2002 Oldsmobile Aurora 3.5 Litre V6

Summary:

Best GM car design ever

Faults:

Nothing has gone wrong with the car, in the year and a half I've owned it.

I can't comment on the quality of dealer service, since it hasn't had anything beyond the routine old changes, and the like. Those were done at a nearby garage. For anything that is not routine I'll go to a car dealer.

General Comments:

This may very well be the best car GM has ever made (!) so I am extremely sad that Oldsmobile is gone as a make. The longest brand in the industry and GM dumps it, at considerable cost. Now they're desperate for money. Makes no sense.

Next I'll probably buy a Buick - the nearest car to my Aurora. But it seems like a step down from an Oldsmobile!

"This may very well be the best car GM has ever made"

- Agreed! I have a 2001 Aurora & I think that the Big Dummies at GM didn't know a good thing when they saw it!

2002 Oldsmobile Aurora 3.5 3.5L DOHC V6

Summary:

Outstanding value as a used luxury car

Faults:

Corrosion on the hood at the front edge - repaired under warranty.

Memory seats do not function properly.

General Comments:

Very comfortable, stylish inside and out, easy to drive and a great value. I average about 24mph on regular gas, with a mix of city and highway driving. The car is stable and quiet with lots of luxury features. Performance is fully adequate for getting onto highways and passing. I see no need for the thirstier V-8.

Mine is extremely well equipped, with stability control, heated seats, rain sensing wipers and much more. It makes a very safe and stable car in winter weather.

As a used car, this is a fantastic value.

2002 Oldsmobile Aurora

Summary:

Worst and most expensive car we have ever owned

Faults:

Car has had serious water leaks since new. Carpets have been replaced, smells musty, has mold inside now. Leaks from the top, leaks from the bottom, leaks where the light buttons are on the top. Leaks everywhere. We have wanted a replacement of this car since it was new and no one will help us.

I think that a lot of seams weren't sealed correctly at the factory. And maybe some seals around the doors & windows are bad. A body shop could take care of all the leaks.

The trunk leaks on my 01 Aurora. The body shop couldn't find the problem. They hosed it down while someone was inside, but couldn't find the leak. I was hoping to solve this. I wish someone else would be more specific about where they found their leaks. My repairman is stumped.

It collects water sitting because we haven't driven it in a month, but when I opened the trunk the whole well for the spare was full of water.

I also have a problem with water just flowing into the trunk of my Aurora. I have to keep a tarp in the trunk, and place anything valuable under the tarp. The dealership I bought it from attempted to check it out, but I still have the problem.

I have also had the valve body work done for about 1,500. Fast forward, had transmission rebuilt for over 2,000, which was the cheapest quote.

Now the water pump is supposedly faulty.

Check gas cap error has become a problem.

This car was purchased, and had 75k miles on it and one owner. I found out later that this model car is notorious for transmission problems. I love my car to death, but I am getting really tired of it as far as mechanical issues.

Had the same leak issue, and found the leak to be intruding from behind the latch. There is a black plastic strip just under the trunk seal, located on the outside (side) of trunk (where the license plate would be). Water gets trapped behind it from runoff trickling onto the plastic strip. Inside the trunk there are four bolts holding the strip on; by removing those bolts, you can access the leak. That is if you have the same one.
