1991 Oldsmobile Ciera SL 3.3 V6

Summary:

Money saving RELIABILITY

Faults:

Nothing except the front struts. Seriously.

General Comments:

I lost my job in 2002, sold my '99 Blazer and bought this one for $950.

I didn't drive it too much in the winter of 2002 and no matter how long it sat (3 weeks at a time) it always started immediately. No hesitation at all. I live in southwestern Ontario and our winters get very bitter indeed.

1991 Oldsmobile Ciera V6

Summary:

A great place for this car would be the junkyard!

Faults:

My brake pads have been changed twice since I've had the car.

Engine runs rough at times and diagnostics shows that there is nothing wrong with the car.

The car stalls all the time, especially when it sits for long periods of time.(It's been towed 4 times because of not restarting.)

Transmission is very loud and rough when it downshifts.

Brake system had to be totally rebuilt.

New radiator at 54,000 miles.

New blower motor at 56,000 miles.

General Comments:

I bought this car from an older couple who very rarely drove and maybe the problems that I've had may have occurred due to the car sitting for long periods of time.

I've put twice as much money in the car than what I bought it for.

I get nervous when my wife takes it to the grocery store.

When the car is running without any problems it is very comfortable and a smooth ride for long trips.

Sounds like a case of buyers remorse here. Let the buyer beware. Hey, It's a used car that sat! With the exception of the radiator going at 50K miles, I see nothing in this review which suggests anything other than standard routine preventive maintenance costs.

I just bought an Oldsmobile Ciera S for my 17 year old daughter. I purchased it from an older woman that had let it sit for months without starting it. It starts right up and when we can drive it, it is very smooth. The problem is that after we drive it for awhile it will die on us. It will start up again after it sits for an hour or so. We have treated the gas, but we can't seem to keep it running long enough to run the gas out. Once we get new premium gas in it I think it will be great for her.

Please bring it to the junkyard in Elm Mott Texas then, and I will put the new radiator and other new bits on mine. Mine runs rough when cold as well, and the check engine light never comes on, but once warmed up, it drives like a new car. I'm sure there's a fix for this, but I have more important things to consider on my $225 Ciera, like the radiator. And the busted steering column from the prior thefts. And the previous owner used a floor jack to lift the car a few times and bulged up 3 of the 4 footwells. So... I need to pull the front seats out and use a big hammer. Hammer, duct tape, and WD-40 is about all this pile needs. For a $225 car, why spend money when you don't HAVE to?!!

1991 Oldsmobile Ciera 3.3 V6

Summary:

A nice mid size car

Faults:

Had to replace the water pump at about 96,000 miles.

The alternator went at 100,000, cheap to fix.

The starter and flywheel both went the day after I got the car. Dealership made me pay half of $700 to fix it.

Exhaust replace at 116,000 miles.

Spark Plugs replace a few times.

The only thing about this car is the brakes. Seem to go through a lot of pads on it. Ever since I have owned the car, the brakes were never right. They shake and grab for no reason makeing you look like an idiot at a stop light because of the tires screeching.

I replaced the bearings all the way around.

New rotors and drums, pads to do with them.

New calipers and the cilindar things for the rear end.

After spending all the money into it. The brakes still shook. Took it to the dealer and they said it was the suspension. So I had it replaced. Brakes still shook. So I gave up and till today they still shake. I guess you get used to it.

I have my own personal waterfalls inside when it rains. Nice affect, thanks oldmobile, gives it a personal touch. Yes the windows leak bad.

The doors sound like they are always open.

Dash lights are slowly going out.

Other than that... nothing really serious.

General Comments:

I haven't had any serious motor or transmission problems at all. Serviced more frequently then it needed to be.

The car is still in great shape for the miles it has on it except for the rough idling that the dealership says is normal.

The car can get up and goes went you want it to. Great off the start and I love the get up on the highway for passing.

I need to get a new car, but I just don't want to give this one up.

There is nothing uncomfortalbe really except a few complaints from the back because it's too crowded. Sucks to be in the back.

The trunk is huge. I have to literly climb all the way in to get something from the back.
