1987 Oldsmobile Cutlass Salon Supreme 305 c.i. GMC

Summary:

A well built, classy comfy, and fast car..made in America

Faults:

To be expected, this former California car has had the radiator replaced. It has had the alternator replaced. It has had its water pump replaced.

General Comments:

This black and chrome coupe is still a fine cruiser and around town driver where everything still works. Only problem recently is the gauges don't work until the car warms up in Winter.

1987 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme 3.8 V6

Summary:

The Gutless Cutlass

Faults:

The only problems I had with this car was the little things.

The alternator about $60.

The belts $10.

The transmission mounts $100.

The brake line. (The old owner put the flex line on back wards.)

General Comments:

The car was nice, but I made the mistake of buying one with the little six banger in it. It didn't have the power to move the big heavy car.

Every thing else about the car was good. I loved the way it looked going down the road. Great first car. I'm only sorry that I sold it.

Yeah 3000 pounds is fairly heavy nowadays. My car is only 1400 pounds.

1987 Oldsmobile Cutlass Salon 3.8 V6

Summary:

Fun to drive, but not a good investment in the long run

Faults:

Right now the transmission is going.

The fuel gage used to be broken so the car always ran out of gas and died.

The engine drops a cylinder at idle.

The car needed paint, tires, full tuneup, fuel pump, shocks, etc. because the car had been sitting for a year.

Over the summer the brake lines rusted out and I ended up replacing the lines and pads, and I got the drums and rotors cut.

I also put in new shocks and and bushings around the same time.

The front end needs to be aligned because the car dives under hard braking and the calipers are shot as well.

I replaced the battery because it drained itself of fluid.

I also replaced the alternator.

General Comments:

I love this car, but it has become a money pit.

I bought the car for $850 and have put at least $900 into it.

I'm selling it because the transmission is on it's last legs and I don't have the money to repair it.

One day I hope to buy a 1987 Oldsmobile Cutlass 442.

This is a fun car, but I wouldn't recommend it unless you lave lots of money and are a good mechanic.

My dad bought a 1986 cutlass Salon and in the last two years it has been past onto me. The car, as an 1986, is 19 years old. The only thing we've done to the car is fixed the radiator because it leaked, changed a couple of batteries because they went bad, changed an altinator because it wore out and now just lately we put new rubber brake lines on the front. This car has over 300 000 kilometers on it.

I don't know what happened to your car or who owned it, but it seems like they tourcherd it a bit.

Great traveling car

Faults:

Rusted Roof, Hood, and doors at 33,000.

Fuel Line Rusted Out at 37,000.

Driver side Door handle (inside) Broke at 40,000.

Upper Heater Hose changed at 41,000.

Upper Heater Hose Changed again at 43,000.

Dash board is a little melted due to heat by the sun.

Rack and Pinion changed at 60,000.

Catalytic Converter Changed at 78,000.

General Comments:

This 2 door coupe is not too quick, but it is a good town and highway car.

It is very reliable on a day to day basis.

Not too bad on gas.

This car is not an eyes sore in any means.

Very easy to maintain with repairs.

The two front seats of the car are very roomy and comfortable to drive, but because it is a 2 door the backseat is a little uncomfortable for anyone over 5'8' in height.
