1975 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale 350 rocket

Summary:

It's a tough car

Faults:

Nothing really has gone wrong with her since I bought it, except the front calipers are sticking from sitting for 10 years!

General Comments:

This car is great. It's 33 years old and has been to hell and back. 8 previous owners and a lot of mileage, she is in the rough right now.

It has major rust on the rear quarters, and some minor rust everywhere else, but she still goes like a bat out of hell.

She is a tough car and is slowly being restored; body parts are just hard to get for her because it's not a Camaro or a Firebird, it's a car that nobody wants to fix up because it's an oddball and she's worn out. If you are like me and love these cars, you will understand!

Some people have missed the point, regarding the owner's experience of running an old car. Yes it's seen better days, but it's a piece of American automotive history!!! It can easily be fixed, it's not overburdened with complex electronics, tough as old nails, and I bet it puts a smile on the owner's face!

If more people like this lady, treasured the old cars as much as she does, then perhaps more people would appreciate that America used to produce very distinctive cars, that had character, style, and could be distinguished from any other vehicle.

Unfortunately today's cars are mostly uniform in design, character, and are incredibly expensive to repair and maintain.

I personally find most of today's cars to be 'clone' like in appearance, with drab interiors of black, grey or beige plastic, or any other uniform material.

Good luck to you lady!

1975 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale 350

Summary:

It came from a time of big, fast cars and will tear up any fiberglass rice-grinder in it's way

Faults:

I rebuilt and replaced the alternator, belts (alternator belt twice as it was shredded by some mysterious force I have not been able to identify), 2 new batteries, cancerous rust along roof, one wheel well, and extensive rust on hood, needs new seals, floor pans, and carpeting.

General Comments:

My car looks kind of crappy right now, but boy can it burn up the road! I love driving it even though it shakes when I go past 60mph (shocks) and I almost get thrown to one side of the car on turns. I have a vision for this car even though many ignorant people have told me it's a piece of crap. This baby's a classic.

I plan to put a 455 with blower, etc. in it and do extensive body work.

I've grown quite attached to this car as it is my first. I purchased it for $50, but with that engine, it's worth a lot more. I'll tell you, this car is one big powerhouse of pimpdom.

It looks crappy and shakes over 60 mph?

Sounds like a great car all right.

Hey kid, catch a clue. You can't drive this heap as though it was a new car. Just because you can make this tub go fast does not mean it is safe. I have seen guys like you trying to drive your old clunkers as though they had nothing wrong with them.

Fortunately they usually break down and are abandoned on the side of the road before their dingbat drivers manage to get in any accidents with them.

Does not sound bad I have a 1974 Oldsmobile delta 88 that I supped up. It is a 455cu running 10.5 to 1 compression dual quad pounding out 425hp. Leaving a light I look in the rear view mirror to see the funny expression on the face of the driver I left behind me at the light. Go for the blower:)

An update: I have replaced the front and back brakes (rotors, calipers, etc. on front) and am doing body work on it right now. I think that the rude comments left about my review were just a product of ignorance and boredom. Of course my car doesn't drive like it's new and never will, because it's a classic. The cars nowadays are all fiberglass and computers; you have to take the things to the dealer to get it fixed unless you have thousands of dollars of diagnostic equipment and specialized tools. If you put the time and work into something that is worn down and old to make into a beautiful piece of machinery, then maybe you'll understand where I'm coming from. Until then don't comment on something you know nothing about. And by the way, I'm a women.

I have a 1975 Odlsmobile Delta 88 and this thing Probably has more power than your 455 this beast has the 400 rocket with the 400 turbo trans. You can pretty much just sit there and roast the tires on it with ease. This beast does over 100 mph with ease it barely gets past 3,000 RPM's. I love my car!
