1984 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale B 305 rocket V8

Summary:

Old (s) reliable

Faults:

The drivers seats have been replaced. The car has a 'new' transmission out of another 88. Replaced wiper motor. I think the car has been rear. ended several times and it was involved in at least one major accident. Sheetmetal is bent only minimally and obviously not the car's fault.

General Comments:

The Olds is one heck of a ride. I got this car from my father in law and I am using it as a commuter vehicle every day.

There is really on problem with this car and it has aged considerably well.

My father in law bought in 2000 and it has taken quite a beating since.

I am overall impressed how well it held up for it's age, milage and 'abuse'.

If I could wall into a dealership today and buy one, I would.

"If I could wall into a dealership today and buy one, I would."

- You can't, thanks to the GREAT BRAINS at GM.

1984 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale Chevy 350 5.7L

Summary:

It is the best car I have driven and I would not get rid of it

Faults:

My head gasket blew at 69000 miles. Minor things like the sun visors are in bad shape and my mirrors need replacement.

General Comments:

The car is seriously fast, handles the road well, and perfectly does its job as a car and that is drive me from point A to point B. It is very comfortable and roomy, and holds a lot of people. The trunk holds a lot.

1984 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Regency 307

Summary:

Nice 80's luxury ride

Faults:

Water pump replaced.

Belts and hoses.

Wiper motor replaced.

Transmission rebuilt.

Turn signal multi-function arm replaced.

All items listed were done when I purchased the car.

General Comments:

Once I got the car roadworthy, (It had been sitting idle for some time) it has been very reliable. I was surprised that all the options like the cruise control and power everything (even the clock) still work! The car is typical 80's luxury; comfortable pillow seats, lots of legroom and a smooth, quiet ride.

Body style: In my opinion, of all the 80's "box" shaped cars, Oldsmobile styling has survived the test of time.

Literally millions were built (1980-1985) so parts are plentiful (for now) at the salvage yards and parts stores.

Gas mileage: I get about 15-20 mpg.

Cons: Lots of vacuum hoses that rot with age and heat; I strongly urge anyone who buys one of these old cars to replace them.

307 V-8 motor is adequate, very reliable, just enough power to move such a big car, but nothing special.

The styling of these cars really do withstand the test of time. All of the GM B-Body cars are very sharp looking, especially the "box-styling" (1977-1990). I have a 1985 Delta 88 Royale Brougham with 101,000 miles on it and absolutely love it. I will never sell my Olds. These cars are great looking, extremely reliable and strong running, get decent gas mileage, and have a ride quality and comfort that no modern luxury car can touch. Why GM quit building them I will never understand, especially with the sales Ford has had with theirs (Merc Gran Marquis, Ford Crown Vic/Interceptor/taxi, Lincoln Towncar/Towncar limo). If only Detroit would build modernized "big cars".

1984 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royal Brougham LS 5.0L

Summary:

A classic

Faults:

Astroroof has developed a leak.

Valve cover gasket needs replacing.

Other fixable stuff.

General Comments:

Located this car after an extensive search. It is equipped with many factory options including fibre optic lights, power passenger seat, Astroroof, among others. Recently located an original gauge package (one of the few options this car doesn't have).

Drove the car for 5 and 1/2 hours from the seller's city back to mine, without any problems. Have stored the car since then, starting it periodically. Will start restoration this spring.

In my opinion this car is on of the nicest designs I have ever seen. It is also very comfortable, with adequate power, and many luxury features for it's time.

Mechanical parts are easy to find, and inexpensive.

What more can you ask for?
