1995 Plymouth Neon Sport

Summary:

Reliable, fun to drive, and easy on gas

Faults:

Broken turn signal.

ABS system blew out.

Chipping pain.

Loose fender.

Worn seat that I sewed.

Crappy headlights (fixable).

General Comments:

Neons are good cars. This one is my first car. I'd buy another one... only newer next time. They are pretty and small. Although, my headlights look yellow, with some tint thing, I can change that.

1995 Plymouth Neon 2.0 DOHC

Summary:

I would rather spend $5000 on a bike than buy a Neon. JUNK!!

Faults:

My spark plug blew out of my head.

My head gasket went out.

My oxygen sensor went out.

My clutch went out also.

Paint coming off.

Trunk latch doesn't work.

Door panels are loose and fall off.

General Comments:

All and all I bought my 95 Neon Sport for a car with good gas mileage. I bought it for $6600.

It ran good for a half a year then everything went wrong. I will not ever buy a Plymouth or Dodge car again. Since I bought the car I have read that these cars are worthless. I would like the Manufacturer to know that ripping off the public is a good way to lose business. Not replacing head gaskets and oxygen sensors that are a sure problem is going to be the death of your company and the car owners would like to see a recall. I have spent almost $2200 on repairs for a car that is not even paid for yet. The worst thing is, it has not ran for a year because the dealer can't find that problem with it. JUNK! JUNK! JUNK!

Only Ford and Chevy for me.

I would like to comment on your comment on the neon.

-First of all the dodge neon is one of the most reliable cars you can buy.

-Your spark plug blew because you were revving your engine or did not change the oil those are the only thing that could cause that.

-Your gasket blew because for the same reasons for the spark plug.

-For the oxygen sensor yeah duh light bulbs go out change it!!

-Your clutch went out well that happen to amateur drivers who don't know what they are doing, learn to shift then buy a manual car.

-For your paint well duh TURTLE WAX!!! use it once in awhile

-For the trunk latch try not to slam you trunk shut things don't just break on there own something has to be done to them for them to break.

-And for your door panels same as the trunk latch.

-Overall you just don't know how to take care of a car all the things you named are errors made by the car buyer not the car itself.

Thanks for reading

In response to the above comment Neons are indeed crappy cars. Especially the first generation ones. The problems listed in this review are not all the result of the reviewers driving habits or lack of maintenance. The fact is the Neon is one of the worst cars ever built. Sooner or later every single of them experiences the same problems (head gasket blows, transmission fails etc.) and worst part is most of these problems occur before they even reach 80,000 miles. Cars these days should have no major problems past 100,000 miles. While the saying is true. You pay $10,000 you get $10,000 worth of car the problems associated with the Neon are excessive. If you don't believe me read Consumer Reports. They gave the Neon their worst rating.

Uh, reving your engine and not changing your oil are going to blow a head gasket? Give me a break! the older neon's are notorious for blown head gaskets-design flaw. and a clutch will wear out eventually on its own you can't blame the car company for burning up the clutch! The older neon's ARE JUNK! the newer ones are a lot better.
