1999 Plymouth Neon

Summary:

Friends don't let friends buy neons

Faults:

MY head gasket blew at 49,000.The radiator blew. Had to replace the battery. Short in the turn signal switch. The transmission leaks fluid. The car vibrates at speeds above 60mph, like the steering column is gonna break loose. I followed all the recommended maintenance in the manual, though.

General Comments:

The dealership was virtually no help.

It does have a nice factory stereo.

The 1st 40,000 miles were pretty free of defects. It has been falling apart quickly. I wouldn't wish this car on my worst enemy.

The shaking in your steering column is most likely extremely worn TIE ROD ENDS. I have that vibration and it'll be $315 to replace the outer tie rod ends.

I would just like to say that I agree the neon has some expensive problems occasionally. However, I bought my neon with only 27 miles on it. I have been the only owner of it. I love it. It has taken me "up North" numerous times, I have traveled to the Black Hills numerous times and throughout Wisconsin when I went to school there. I rarely have had the oil changed and a typical 3000 mile maintenance. The Minnesota winters can get pretty rough and the neon keeps getting through them. She warms up quickly and I cannot complain about how she handles on the icy roads when you have to break fast. Like I said, The neon has some problems. But my goodness, my neon is now our family's "SUPER NEON" for the way it gets us through any problem.
