Summary:

The ultimate cheap commuter car

Faults:

The carburetor keeps loading up so it will not idle. The rear brake wheel cylinders leak brake fluid.

General Comments:

I love this car. I paid $450.00 for it. The body and paint is in very good condition and the interior is mint. The car runs out very well, I put almost 100 miles a day on it.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know

I also have a 1984 Plymouth Reliant Wagon. The paint is in bad condition, but it is reliant when it is serviced like it is supposed to be.

We have had this car since 1995...

LOL!!! I too used to own an '84 Plymouth Reliant Wagon. (My God, why would I want to admit that on an internet site?!?)

This wagon was the ultimate piece of crap.!!! Both my wife and I hate the car so bad we would purposely leave it unlocked in hopes that someone would steal it!

Honest, I used to be in the military and stationed in Boston, MA back in the 80's. I used to drive the Reliant Wagon into Boston, but not park it on base. I'd park it along the city streets in downtown Boston and leave it unlocked. I prayed that someone would take it. But everyday I got off duty, the $*#&@&@ Reliant Wagon would still be parked on the street!

1984 Plymouth Reliant 2.2L 4 cylinder

Summary:

Nice car, but I would likely not buy another

Faults:

I bought the car with the all too common problem of partially rusted floorboards. I plan to work on this more to fix it permanently and properly.

The motor was recently replaced (by my choice, not a mechanical failure), and the carb never wants to work like it should.

The interior was redone by myself, with velour seats that aren't at all comfortable to sit on.

Other things, like the exhaust, tires, lights and minor body parts are the only things that have been changed.

General Comments:

Since my father sold his identical (color and body, anyway) car 5 years back, I always had the dream of owning one. It's also an excellent memory of my dad, because he passed on shortly before I bought it.

In their day, when they were fresh from the assembly line, these cars might have been perfect for the young driver.

Nowadays, these cars will ultimately nickel and dime a person into the poor house if the car was driven in Michigan or any other wintery state.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes
