1988 Plymouth Sundance

Summary:

Big quality for low cost

Faults:

I had general things go wrong as with any high mileage car.

I replaced the timing belt at about 120,000.

I replaced a couple of sensors.

The biggest thing with this car was the paint, it started flaking off after about 95,000 until my white car was almost completely gray.

General Comments:

This was my favorite car I ever owned.

It was sporty, reliable, easy on gas and a blast to drive.

I have yet to find a car with seats as comfortable as the ones in my Sundance.

My Sundance got me hooked on Chrysler products and I haven't looked back. I am on my 4th Dodge. The only reason I sold the Sundance was for more room.

Hey I was just wondering if you knew of anywhere I could get a picture with the parts listed on it... You see I am so not a mechanically inclined female and my 1988 sun dance has broken down... something is wrong and oil is spraying out of a hole and I need to know what that hole is so I can get the thing fixed... I love my sun dance and I would like to keep it instead of selling it... if you could help me out email me at velezchristina@hotmail.com.

I would suggest that you go to an auto parts store, or even Amazon.com and buy a Hayne's Manual or Chilton's Manual for your car. These are very detailed repair manuals for the do-it-your-selfer, and they break out the car's different systems with troubleshooting guides, and detailed diagrams with step-by-step instructions for how to check and replace things. These manuals run about $20.

1988 Plymouth Sundance sedan 2.2 liter 4 cylinder

Summary:

A once in a lifetime deal!

Faults:

I have never really had anything major go wrong with my car.

I have never had to put it in the shop.

I did rip the CV boot on the left front axle, but, things like that happen on a front wheel drive car.

The headliner in the car is sagging a little, but the car is over 14 years old.

I guess the only major/minor problem is this car does use up thermostats pretty quick. I'm talking like every year. I already had to, but 2 in myself. One when I got the car on the road back in may of 2002 and just this new year of 2003. But they are only 3 dollars a thermostat and take 10 minutes to put in so I don't mind it at all.

General Comments:

I really like my little Sundance. I call it "Little Blue". Like I said never had any problems. This car eats up the snow for breakfast. It handles very well. Gets good gas mileage, and it rides very smooth. It has a great heater and air conditioner. Everything works on it like new.

I would recommend this car to anyone who wants a very reliable car.

1988 Plymouth Sundance 2.2 litre

Summary:

Worst car since the Vega/Pinto!

Faults:

Every constant velocity joint changed, some two or three times.

Struts.

Head gaskets and warped head (twice).

Terrible fit and finish.

Fuel pump (twice).

Starter.

Alternator.

Exhaust system.

General Comments:

Eventually Dodge provided better cv joints and boots so that wasn't a problem anymore.

The engine is godawful, almost everyone I've talked to has had nothing but trouble with them. I have one friend, though who has driven his 90 Sundance unmercifully for 170,000 kms. with very few problems. All in all, I'd say it is without a doubt the worst car I've ever owned.

1988 Plymouth Sundance

Summary:

This car is a low cost, good speed toy

Faults:

I just bought the car recently, so, as of yet, nothing has gone wrong with it.

It was used when I acquired it, so it did have wear and tear; such as no back bumper, and one blinker light out, but those are minor.

General Comments:

I love this car! Yeah, it may look like an old beater, but it runs, and it was cheap, so I have no room to complain.

The turbo gauge on the dash gives you a real feeling of performance when it kicks in at 2nd gear.

Until I find something better, I think this car will satisfy my needs.
