1990 Plymouth Voyager SE V6 3.0L

Summary:

Will last forever

Faults:

Oil pan had a dent not allowing it to be drained when I first bought it. I made a new hole and it hasn't leaked.

Left window won't open.

Back right vent window won't open.

Radio a little wonky.

Alternator has just broken.

Hassle to work on.

~15MPG.

A/C broken.

General Comments:

Runs great! Perfect first car.

Handles very gently and responsibly.

Very roomy inside.

Comfortable seats.

Won't die.

Brakes well, has locked a few times, but that was my braking and the very old tires.

This car runs great for the 6 months I've had it, no problems at all, at first it would shutdown at idle, but I replaced the spark plugs and it has never shut down on me once.

I'm impressed how a vehicle older than me, runs so well. It has 188,000 miles and still runs, I drive it hard as well, averaging 70 on the highway and sometimes reaching speeds up to 95. I refuse to take it higher. Perfect!

Still incredibly awesome!

Runs perfect, no repairs since then besides a leaking radiator drain cock.

I bought a new one at a discount auto parts store for 3 dollars and popped it in myself.

Has about 193k miles on it, and still virtually soundless, besides the soothing humm when accelerating.

All of my windows work now after quick 3 dollar fixes.

No problems at all right now!

I bought this van new in 1990 and have, so far, put 460,000km on it. Same engine, same transmission.

There really haven't been any major repairs so far. I change the oil faithfully every 5,000km but not much else. I treated her to a tune up at 300,000km. The mechanic said that the last time he saw a set of spark plugs like that, he was working on his wife's car.

It's been a real trooper of a vehicle. I know the day will eventually come when it will have to be replaced but I dread the day. This has been, without a doubt, the BEST vehicle I have ever owned; nothing else even comes close.

Hope she lives forever.

1990 Plymouth Voyager LE 3.0 V6

Summary:

If you can afford 17 to 20 mpg, go for it!

Faults:

I am the third owner of this vehicle. I only paid $1,500.00 for this van. Unfortunately, it broke down after only a month and a half. Now, seven months later, I have finally gotten it fixed. The only things that were wrong with it were the fuel pump and the transmission brain. Other than that it is a wonderful vehicle.

General Comments:

Although the van does not have a lot of get up and go, it does like to fly when it does.

I only wish it had shoulder straps in the rear.

The air conditioning is fantastic.

1990 Plymouth Voyager LS 3.0L V6

Summary:

It's a great car with good power

Faults:

The motor needed a valve job around 90,000 miles.

The water pump and fuel pump were replaced at 100,000 miles.

The thermostat just failed at 115,218 miles.

The arm rests are starting to crack as well as the steering wheel.

General Comments:

All in all it's a great car. It gets almost 20 miles to the gallon and has a lot of power for a 14 year old 3.0L V6.

It handles good and drives good in the rain and snow.

The interior is very nice and sits 7 well. I like the removable seat in the rear and middle.

The transmission shifts smooth even when you accelerate hard.

Remember this car has 115,218 miles and its all original except a few parts.

1990 Plymouth Voyager Base 2.5L I-4 Gasoline

Summary:

The most reliable, comfortable minivan ever

Faults:

No major repairs whatsoever until late 2003 when the factory radiator blew out. I replaced it myself quickly, easily, and cheaply.

The air conditioning died in 2001, but it only needs a recharge and I've been too cheap to invest the money in it.

Currently, it smokes a tiny bit, and burns about one quart of oil per 5,000 miles, not bad considering it's a thirteen year old minivan.

It is beginning to rust through in several areas which is a problem. However it's not unexpected since this van has spent ten years outside in Michigan winters, no garage. Body repairs are difficult due to it's unit-body construction.

General Comments:

I seriously love this van. My parents purchased it new, then gave it to me because it had such a low resale value when they purchased a 2000 Honda Odyssey. The low resale value was mostly due to the manual transmission which I love, and most people don't.

From what I hear of the longevity of this motor and transmission set up, I eagerly look forward to the next thirteen years with this van.

The front passenger area is the best I've seen in any minivan before or since, terribly comfortable. The back seat area is not so nice however. Very utilitarian, but it does the job.

It handles well, and drives nicely. The manual transmission gives it some much needed extra pep, great for quick passing on the highway.

I just purchased a 1990 Voyager base with the same 2.5 / 5 speed manual setup. I absolutely love it!!! It only has 77,000 original miles and leaks nothing. The 5 speed is great, drives better than my 98 Silverado!!
