1993 Plymouth Voyager gasoline

Summary:

Great vehicle, but serious design flaws

Faults:

The transmission went out and when we took that out we found the CV boot was ripped. After getting the transmission fixed and reinstalled we redid the CV boot, then we found that we could not get the axle in right. During the aging of the vehicle the motor mounts had spread out causing the CV boot to tear which caused the transmission to fail. The answer is to check your CV boot when doing oil changes and we ended up having to have an axle 1" longer installed to correct the problem.

We also had to have a new rear main seal installed.

General Comments:

We like the voyage for the room it gave us. and it handled beautifully and was fuel efficient, however the repairs we had to make was costly.

1993 Plymouth Voyager 3.0

Summary:

Comfortable, but a money pit!

Faults:

First problem was the wheel bearings, fixed them twice. Then it was a major oil leak, the battery, the starter (twice), the brakes (twice), ball joints, EGR Valve, thermostat, and I am saving up to replace the muffler which is very rusted out. I've also been told to get the gas tank sprayed because it is starting to rust badly. Also, something in the steering is seized, has been since I bought it.

General Comments:

This van is very good on gas, I get about 550 km on a tank (65 L).

It handles well, and is easy to maintain (as far as basic maintenance goes).

Very roomy and versatile, seats are easy to remove and replace.

1993 Plymouth Voyager SE 3.3

Summary:

A costly vehicle when it breaks down

Faults:

Radiator cost a fortune to replace, it leaks when it feels like it!

Parts for it cost also a fortune, the rest runs great, best vehicle I owned, very well designed... until I fork out top dollars to repair it.

General Comments:

Well, I recently bought that car, paid $2000 for it, it runs well, but the only thing wrong with it is that the radiator leaks... on occasion.

Hopefully, the previous owner put over $5000 in repairs, $2000 for the transmission, in the 4 years he owned it and I have the bills to prove it

It appears that he was tired of putting money on it so he found another sucker (me). So what I suggest to anyone who wants a Voyager is this, buy with the 3.3 motor and with the repair history, or else don't buy it... unless new and sell it when the guarantee expires.

You bought an American car with 137,000 miles on it and expected it to be like new. Sorry, but it's not.

I know what your talking about,I'm on my second Voyager the first one was a 1992 Grand Voyager it only had 113,000 miles on it when the transmission died so I got it rebuilt never shifted right and about 2000 miles after that then the head gasket blew out and ceased the motor

The only reason I have a 1993 Voyager now is because it was given to me.

I have a 1992 Voyager and over the last 6 months I have had to put $1,300.00 into it. I've had head gaskets, timing belt, water pump, housing unit, oil leaks, axles, and some minor work done. I love the van, but when they start to go, get rid of them fast. The 2.5L,4 Cylinder goes through radiators about every 30,000 miles. My van is on the fourth one.
