1990 Pontiac 6000 LE 3.1 liter

Summary:

Very nifty Euro-flavor mid-size car

Faults:

Replaced computer and 5 fuel injectors (due to bad gas) at 125000 miles.

Replaced original main brake line, rotors, rear calipers at 124000 miles.

Replaced water pump at about 95000 miles.

General Comments:

Very nice riding car!!

Quick off the line, lots of passing power, will cruise at turnpike speeds with no problems.

Love all the "buttons" and extras.

Interior has held up quite well, still very comfortable.

Overall at 128000 miles it still gets me where I'm going.

I used to sell Pontiac in 83 to 84, and some of us sales staff and friends piled into a new 6000 with bench seats and took off to the auto show. It was the first time I have driven a 6000 for any distance, and I was impressed on how well the car handled. When the next day, I looked up the design history of the car, and the head person (don't remember his name) said that the car was to drive somewhat like a European car, though I don't know if it did. All I know, is it drove very well for a car with 7 people in it.

1990 Pontiac 6000 LX 3.1 Liter MPFI V6

Summary:

A great all around car

Faults:

New brakes.

I replaced normal things when I got it...

New CV joint.

Plenum valve needed replacing.

Passenger power window doesn't work.

General Comments:

Considering I payed $550 for this car due to high mileage, I am very well pleased. It has given me 18,000 miles in the less than two years I have had it.

The cost of repairs has probably gone to about $500, but I don't think I could have done better for $1000.

This car has a large 3.1 liter engine and has good acceleration. Burn outs are a breeze, and merging is no problem. Has been very reliable, I have never been stranded by it.

For a car with this much mileage, I love it, it's much better than my last which died with less than 100K. I'm hoping to get to a quarter-million in this one, and it's not showing any signs of stopping yet.

Take care of it and it will take care of you.

I am writing to you Jan. 6, 2010, hoping you still own the 6000. It is true what you said about taking care of the car and it will take care of you. I purchased an 85 STE in 11/88 and I have kept a log book of the maintenance and repairs I have done to the car. I purchased a new 2001 4 cyl Audi A4, and it has 210,000 miles with the same clutch, shocks, etc (plus the has been to driving schools and auto cross events), then in 2007, I happened to find another 85 STE which I purchased for $650.00. It ran real good and what I have done to the car is replace the headliner, rack and pinion, flush all of the fluids out (trans, cooling, brakes, and fuel system cleaning). Then I had the car painted the same color at Maaco for it was what I could afford. It drives like is it almost new. So keep maintaining you car.

Thanks for Listening.
