Summary:

This 2000 Pontiac was not built well

Faults:

Gas pump went twice on me, part cost was 500.

Signal lights noise comes and goes automatically.

The car is always asking for coolant; might be a leak, even though I don't see one.

Driver side automatic seat, no longer works.

Automatic door locks work when they feel like it; not often.

I bought the car for real cheap, but I have spent quite a bit on it.

I would not buy another Pontiac again; I should have listened to my father.

The only thing I like about the car is it's fun to drive, because it's a fast car.

General Comments:

The car is quick. But the car falls apart slowly; something goes wrong every 6 months.

Summary:

Major big problem vehicle. Junk

Faults:

My head gasket blew - $1500.00.

All three windows/regulators are broken, I heard stuff breaking inside the door. Over $300.00 per window.

Fuel pump went bad - $200.00.

Front noises when braking.

Driver seat up and down dead - $300+

CD player dead.

Front headlights need to be replaced, can't see at night - $200.00+

Brakes wear fast and rotors.

General Comments:

This car drives and handles very well, when it is working.

This car is a heap of cheap junk, cheap parts, just plain cheap. I would not in any way at all, never never never, ever buy another Pontiac again. The bad thing is I was warned, but the looks and handling got me. The 4 and 6 cylinders are both junk. Do not purchase this vehicle.

Almost exactly same story repeats over and over again.

People, don't buy this Pontiac junk. But some attitudes are hard to overcome. I've heard about one poor Grand Am owner (99) who spent over five grand on this junk in only one year.

He still advised his neighbor to get one. Man, was she sorry about it. Misplaced attachment too bad brand doesn't pay off.

Why even people look at those things in an age when information is available everywhere and competitors are so much superior to notorious brand like Pontiac?

General Comments:

In response to the person who had commented on Aug 23rd, 2004 at 20:10, I also have had issues with the power window on the driver's side. I have had my 2000 GA-GT since 2002 and started having issues with the window in 2004. I found it not working one season and as I was preparing to have it repaired, it began working again. Same thing happened in 2005 and again this year. It is currently not working again as of three weeks ago.

Fairly recently I was in a Jack in the Box drive through and I opened my door to receive the food since the window was not working. The guy at the window asked me if the window stopped rolling down, and when I looked at him with my shocked 'how did you know?' look, he proceeded to tell me of a buddy of his who had the same problem. Apparently the friend was told by mechanics that the large amount of electrical components on the GA-GT sometimes causes shorts, disabling the driver's side window. Don't know if this is true, but it sounded acceptable enough to me.

Other than this 'slight' problem and the light falling out of the center of the roof every once in a while, I love the car. Excellent handling, picks up speed quickly, comfortable, more than I could ask for.

Oh, and by the way, thanks to those of you who have provided the websites for performance parts!

2000 Pontiac Grand Am SE1 4 cylinder.

OK I guess

Faults:

I have a question.

OK, I just had to change the coils, coil cover, boots, spark plugs, but the plugs were just regular maintenance. It missed an awful lot on the 1st cylinder. Like 2300 times per second. Basically I fixed the missing part when I changed the coils, but for some strange reason, my tailpipe putts like a beat to a song. It's annoying. It's like Putt, Putt Putt, Putt...etc. Now my mechanic claims that it is either a head gasket or a blown valve. So which is it? Or is it even one of those?

If you can help me, please do so. Oh, and if anyone can tell me what the clicking noise is in the dashboard, that would help too.

The car runs and drives good, but when I sit still in it, it vibrates to hell, and you can actually hear the putting from inside the car.
