2000 Pontiac Grand Am 2.4 twin cam

Summary:

I'd much rather buy another car other than Pontiac.

Faults:

My passenger rear view mirror literally fell off right after I got the car.

The car was bought with a dead battery.

The battery has been replaced twice.

Most recent problem: transmission or so I think. That's what I've been told by many people, but after reading up on it, as well as a friend, we've learned it could also be a number of things. It's not wanting to shift. It would die sometimes out of nowhere. I am being told the fuel pump needs to be replaced now. I am being told by someone that a bunch of stuff had to be and still needs to be replaced, and I'm having a hard time believing this now. We made the mistake of putting our trust in someone that was recommended to us just to save a grand. I don't know, but I'm starting to think maybe we should have just paid the grand and had it done right.

Also, the driver side seat had broken not too long after the car was purchased.

2000 Pontiac Grand Am SE 3.4 V6

Summary:

I wasted $7k on a car that lasted me two years

Faults:

I loved this car.. pretty fast for a 6 but now I'm sick of it.

First thing to go wrong:

Water Pump at not even 35k miles-$300.

Starter AND timing belt at under 37k miles-$280.

Passenger Side Window will make the noise of going up and down.. but doesn't move at all..I'm freezing.

My power locks don't work anymore.. i think because since my window isn't fully shut, water messed it up..great.

Control Knob for climate snapped off.

And oh yeah, it gives me the "somethings really wrong" beep when it's in park.

With 38k miles on it.

General Comments:

It's quick... but shakes at 80 on the highway.

Ugh..i don't wanna talk about it anymore.

2000 Pontiac Grand Am

Summary:

The car has a good body style.

Faults:

Every time I make a turn I hear a humming noise coming from the front end.

A week after I bought the car I heard a clicking noise in the engine, sent it to the repair shop, got it back from the repair shop and as I was driving down the road the car stalled. The oxygen censure went out.

The brakes failed, replaced brakes.

The ABS and Track Light came on, and I went under the car and found out that the wiring harness connected to the break system (ABS) was disconnected, so I plugged it back in and the lights to the ABS and Track went off. So far, that's all the problems I had.

General Comments:

Over all besides everything that I mentioned it is a decent car.

However, the car is a gas hog!

It's a good family car for my wife, newborn son, and myself.

2000 Pontiac Grand Am GT 3.4 Liter V6

Summary:

Waste of money

Faults:

This car has been nothing, but trouble every since we purchased it. we bought it form a college student who bought it new, and couldn't continue to make the payments. The 82,000 was all highway miles. This was my first car, and my last Pontiac. It has been in the shop since we bought it. It is a great looking car on the outside and inside, but it just seems there is always something wrong with it. The fuel pump has went out twice, and 3 plugs have gone bad, I only get about 20mpg highway and it is listed to get around 28. we will never own another Pontiac, also service at the local dealership is very bad, if you didn't buy the car there they won't work on it.

General Comments:

This car is beautiful on the outside and on the inside. It has a sunroof, leather seats, cd player, radio audio controls, and automatic headlights, it was a great looking car when I first turned 16, and I was thrilled when we first got it. However, now one year later, I am ready to get rid of it and get something more reliable.

I think the key sentence in your review is the fact you bought it from a college student who couldn't afford to make the payments. If they couldn't afford to make the payments, they probably didn't keep it up like they should. I have a 2000 Grand Am, and it is the most reliable car I've ever owned. No major problems whatsoever... just maintenance like brakes and tires.
