2001 Pontiac Grand Am SE 6 cylinder

Summary:

I would not recommend the car

Faults:

My 2001 Grand Am has had numerous issues. A few months ago I had to have the ignition replaced. I was told that maybe my keys were too heavy and broke it. I do not even have key chains on my ring. It is pretty light. This cost about $430 dollars including towing.

Then, this past October my driver's side window fell into the door. We took the door panel off and found that the clip had broken. This previous March, my passenger side rear window did the same thing. Then a week ago my passenger side front window also fell into the door and I heard the plastic clip crack and fall into my door. I now only have one functioning window in my car. I am going to the dealer tomorrow and buying new clips. I hope that is the only thing that will be needed to repair the window.

General Comments:

The car is good for the most part.

But the recent repairs are getting more and more serious.

2001 Pontiac Grand Am SE-1 4-door sedan 2.4 litre 4 cylinder

Summary:

They just don't come any better

Faults:

Since purchasing the car in March of 2003 I have not had one problem with this car.

General Comments:

This is the best car I have ever owned. In terms of power, performance, ride and handling it is superior to any car I have owned.

My previous car was a V-8 Mustang, and I was amazed at how little power and performance I gave up in trading it for the Grand Am. The acceleration of this 4-cylinder Grand Am is far superior to my V-6 truck and our 275 horsepower SUV.

The ride of the Grand Am is quiet and smooth, quite unlike the bone-jarring suspensions in previous cars I have owned. Handling may not be quite as sporty, but the ability to enjoy driving briskly without having the fillings jarred out of my teeth offsets any minute disadvantage in high-speed cornering.

Although much maligned by some car magazines and reviewers, I find the sporty and distinctive body cladding to be a tremendous plus in avoiding parking lot dings as well as keeping the Grand Am from looking like every other plain-Jane small car on the road.

Sadly, since Pontiac no longer makes the Grand Am, I will be forced to purchase my next car from another manufacturer. I have test driven two new G-6 models and found them to be major disappointments in both performance and styling.

Unfortunately, the G-6 has joined the ranks of the boring, look-alike crowd.

To those looking for a truly great value in a good used car, I can think of no car more deserving of a look than the Grand Am, especially the very sporty and powerful GT models. If I can find a very clean, low-mileage 2003 Grand Am GT when I am ready for another car, that will be my choice.

I'm the original reviewer, and I have NO IDEA why a "frowny face" was put on this review, as the car is the best car I have ever owned and has had not one problem. I'm re-posting another review to see if the symbol gets changed as it should be. I still have the car and still love it.

The reason there is a blue frown face on your review is when they asked you the question "Would you buy another vehicle from this manufacturer"? you said no.

2001 Pontiac Grand Am GT RAMAIR V6

Summary:

I'm starting to wish I'd bought a Honda

Faults:

Everything was fine with the car till we passed the 60,000 mile mark. then I had to replace a fuel injector, spark plugs, fuel pump, and now its in the shop for a intake gasket replacement. I recommend to everyone that has that red engine coolant to get rid of it once your warranty has run out. it will ruin your car, both my mother and I had the same problem. I almost caused her to blow an engine. it is a costly repair.

General Comments:

It's a beautiful car. but I'm starting to regret buying it.

I'm beginning to notice a pattern in regards to GM's choice of using this orange coolant (Dexcool) : It seems it's just not THAT good a coolant. I've read of quite a few problems with it cooling GM engines after reaching a certain mileage (60,000-70,000). I guess all the adverts of "it'll last for 100,000 miles!" are just fantasy.

I agree. If you would have kept up on your car you would have not had these problems. Would you like to know how many miles my Grand Am has on it? 175,000. I have had no problems with it except new tires/brakes/etc. I replaced my water pump at 80,000 miles because that is the time ALL water pumps start to go out (Between 60-80,000) and that includes Hondas. Not to mention, it was the cheapest fix ever. I got that and a serpentine belt for $150.

So, if you would have spent a little extra time on keeping up on your Grand Am, you'd be enjoying it as much as I am enjoying mine. But you'd rather blame the car.
