2002 Pontiac Grand Am SE

Delightful!!

Faults:

Nothing except for a strange ticking noise coming from the console- dealer is checking it out this afternoon.

General Comments:

This car is great so far. I love it- the comfort- the interior style. Its got ice cold AC that starts in 30 seconds or less. The sound quality is nice and the car handles great. It does really well on gas too- which these days is crucial. I bought the car used and although I"ve only but 150 miles on it I love the way it drives. It was obviously made with attention to detail because of all standard features like a small compartment for a phone/cigarettes and the automoatic lights. I love it!!

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

Congratulations on getting one of the best cars ever built!! My 2001 Grand Am has performed flawlessly for almost 6 years without one single problem of any kind. I have the 2.4 litre twin-cam 4 and the performance is nothing short of amazing. I drove a V-8 powered sports car before getting this Grand Am and the Grand Am is nearly as fast, while riding way smoother and quieter and handling much better in traffic.

My 2001 looks as good as the day it rolled out of the factory, and the interior is still flawless. The fit, finish and build quality is top-notch. I've owned foreign and domestic cars, and nothing has ever come remotely close to the all around great qualities of the Grand Am. I'm very glad I got one of the older ones, as Pontiac dropped the sporty and distinctive body cladding in 2004 and made the SE look like a boring, cheap fleet car or Toyota Camry. Now that they have replaced the GA altogether with the really boring and ugly G-6, I'll most likely go back to Ford for my next car if I live long enough to wear this one out. Several of my friends have well over 250,000 miles on their Grand Ams, so mine may be around longer than me!!

2002 Pontiac Grand Am

Summary:

Piece of crap thanks to GM

Faults:

I've owned my car for 3 years this fall.

Just had the cylinder and a switch replaced (car wouldn't start, but lights, windows, radio, etc. would) - $600.

Just replaced rotors and brake pads (brakes started making a grinding noise about a year into ownership of car) -$740.

Multi function switch is causing a clicking noise coming from what seems like my radio.

Before my 3 month warranty was exp. the driver side window fell into the tracks... since then both windows have failed and only one has been fixed. (too expensive to fix both right now)

Oil Leak.

After taking car to dealership, gears are pulling when shifting into the next gear. Hopefully nothing too serious.

CD player scratches CD's and CD's continuously get stuck.

Lights on clock are half on and half off.

Cabin light doesn't always come on... even after being replaced.

General Comments:

Overall, this car has been a nightmare. I'm upside down in my payments and can't afford a new car. I would not suggest purchasing anything from Pontiac or GM.

Back again with more problems!

Pontiac put a 6 year battery in my car... guess what? I need a new battery and the car is only 4 years old.

A mechanic who jump started my car this morning told me it might be the alternator...lovely.

Still working on getting new brake pads and rotors.

I'm starting to feel that I should just start handing my paycheck over to Pontiac... oh wait, I already do.

Back again...

I ended up trading in my car for a 2006 Nissan Sentra. My pontiac wasn't worth hardly anything because of the many problems I've had with it. Good luck to everyone else.

I have a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am SE, and had to replace the drivers window motor a year ago.

Today the passenger window sash and clips had to be replaced, which is a pain since it is glued on; the mechanic had to remove the glass and remove the glued sash, and re-glue on a new one onto the glass. Normally most people would just replace the glass; a very expensive job.. But mine was repaired and cost 229.00 using my old window. I'd hate to see the bill if I had used a new one.

Overall I'm happy with my car, and would buy a new one if I was in the market for a new Pontiac..
