2001 Pontiac Montana

Summary:

All around EXCELLENT van in my opinion

Faults:

Since purchasing my van, I have replaced both front wheel bearings, brakes all around, tires, plugs and wires, starter and battery.

The first wheel bearing replaced was done so as soon as it was bought. The person that sold it put it up for sale because of a howling coming from the front!!

The interior is in excellent shape and the body has very little rust.

My tranny did go out on me last week. But I wasn't surprised because of the mileage on it. Worth the fix for me, for sure.

General Comments:

I absolutely love my van, and will definitely be buying another one when this one is finally done. I think that it does awesome in the snow (and I am deathly afraid of driving in the stuff!). It handles great and has decent gas mileage.

I bought my van with a lot of miles on it, and expected to have to put some money into it. Surprisingly, I haven't had to do a whole lot. This van has not broke me yet!! My mechanic did tell me that I do have a small intake leak, but to just keep an eye on it. There is also a small lifter tick. This tick has been there since the first day I bought it, and it has not gotten any louder or caused any problems since.

2001 Pontiac Montana

Faults:

Our 2001 Pontiac Montana was repeatedly overheating. We changed the water pump, the thermostat x2, the head gaskets etc. The problem would stop for a little bit and then start right back up.

We found the cure!!! Go to the dealership. There is a pack of three little tablets that you drop into the van and it seals the head gaskets. This cost approx $6. We have not had a problem since, and it has been more than a year. Good Luck!!!

2001 Pontiac Montana EX

Summary:

Overall, I am very disappointed with this vehicle

Faults:

The head gasket went at 100,000 kms.

The power window driver side broken since 90,000 kms.

The rear windshield wiper broke at about 90,000km.

The air conditioning broke at about 90,000km.

The transmission slips every once in a while.

General Comments:

Head gasket had to be replaced. Was told there was a recall on this problem, but it only applied in the U.S. This went at about 100,000 Kms.

Since this van only has 130,000 km, I refuse to get a new vehicle. My last vehicle had 290,000 km, and I would expect to get the same out of this one.

2001 Pontiac Montana V6

Summary:

I love this van, and would probably buy a newer model if I ever had the money to

Faults:

I purchased this car from an individual who owns a very small dealership. When I went to look at the car, we found that the intake gasket or manifold (forgive I'm not sure which.. it's where you put the oil IN at) needed to have the seal/gaskets redone, the serpentine belt replaced and the radiator flushed (I'm not sure he did that).

Then the day I took it home the service engine light came on, took it to my mechanic whom cleaned out the EGR, changed the oil pressure valve and the fuel pressure regulator, which was cracked and leaking all over the engine. While he was fixing it he found that the wiring was all wrong to the valve control and fixed that (at no additional cost, I love this man!).

I've had the tranny fluid serviced and today the battery died on my while I was getting labwork done, but I found a book in the glovebox stating all that's been done to this vehicle... it had new shocks put on it... and other than usual maintenance that's seems to be all that's been wrong with the vehicle. I've only had it about a month and am happy with it, regardless of its problems... the tranny hesitates a little, but the tranny guy said that it's because of the number of miles on it, but that the tranny still looks good and should be OK for awhile. Let's keep our fingers crossed!
