1990 Pontiac Sunbird LE 2.0 Overhead Cam

Summary:

A very good car that will last many years if properly treated and taken care of

Faults:

Brakes most frequently go out at around every 20k.

A/C system needed a charge when I got the car, but has been good since.

Alternator at 60k.

Water pump at 100k, also changed the timing belt while everything was apart.

Raditor fan at 140k.

Struts and wheel bearing at 150k.

Freeze plugs went recently at 154k.

General Comments:

I have been very happy with this car since I bought it and it has given me few problems. The things that need to be done to the car now are because of old age, and I gladly pay a few extra bucks for parts to fix her up. Even though I have a newer car now, I'm still keeping what I consider to be the best car I owned, my Sunbird.

I own a 1990 Pontiac Sunbird LE, automatic transmission. It has around 127,000 miles on it, and I suppose is doing pretty well considering. However, the car has the nasty habit of stalling in the middle of traffic. I suspect that third gear is shot, and thus preventing proper down shifting. It also guzzles transmission fluid like there is no tomorrow, with no apparent leak.

Besides the major inconvenience, nothing terribly large has needed replacement (in the past two years I have owned it).

I am curious to know if anyone else has had difficulty with this make of car, and could perhaps offer suggestions!
