2000 Pontiac Sunfire SE 2.2 GM

Summary:

Much much better than I originally expected!

Faults:

A ridge wore into the brake drum, preventing it from coming off. The back brakes still work perfectly, so I haven't looked at it much.

Low coolant sensor float sometimes sticks, throwing a low coolant warning when it's actually full.

Rear drivers speaker died unexpectedly. Not blown, just simply dead.

Busted radiator hose, easily replaced.

General Comments:

Honestly, this car really surprised me. I bought it because it was a great deal for the mileage and condition it was in, expecting it to be a good little commuter car for university. Since then, though, it's quickly become my favourite out of 4 previous cars.

I wouldn't exactly call it powerful, but the 2200 engine is definitely peppy enough for easy highway driving, and gas mileage is fantastic, both on the highway and in the city.

Some parts, like the plastic glovebox and clips holding everything together, show their cheapness, but as long as you can look past some of that, you'll find a mechanically wonderful little car.

2000 Pontiac Sunfire 2.2

Summary:

Great car

Faults:

Sunfire 2 door, 88000 miles, it will beat any Mustang off the line, or light to light!

NO PROBLEMS, runs great, VIN starts with #1, made in the USA, great car, 30 mpg in town and hauls ass, great car.

I added a few mods to it, I do all my own mechanics. I also run fully synthetic oil, runs awesome, sounds mean with a good exhaust, 2.2 4 banger, this one moves!

General Comments:

GM vehicles are great.

2000 Pontiac Sunfire GT 2.4 Liter

Summary:

A big disappointment

Faults:

I have had ongoing electrical problems. Drivers side power window quit working. High beams quit. When I start up lights flash. All but one blower speed on air/heat quit.

Part of dash lights don't work.

Only one door lock will open with remote. All of these went little by little.

Last week driving home it started knocking. I just found out I need a new motor. I just paid this car off and purchased new tires. I can't believe this.

Is this normal? I have never had an engine problem. I am disabled and only drive short distance. I always have my oil changed on a regular basis. I am now without any transportation, and can't find anyone who will work on it.

Well of course things are failing...you've been using that car for some time now! What else do you expect?

9 years... sounds like you got your moneys worth. Probably didn't spend much money on it while you had it... Oh and the radio is supposed to stay on after you turn the key off.

Actually no it isn't. It drains the battery. I just purchased a used one, and the asshole didn't tell me that, but of course, and I found out it's a switch. And a cheap fix. Auto zone.

2000 Pontiac Sunfire

Summary:

I love it, but hate how frail it is

Faults:

My headlights went out two months after I purchased it used in 03. When I turn the brights on, all lights in my car turn off. My service light turns on when I turn my regular lights on.

The radiator hose needed to be replaced shortly after. When I'm driving, it sounds like a wind tunnel.

The passenger side key doesn't work, and the A/C went out after this.

The brakes needed replacing quite a bit; it still jerks after the rotors have been turned and brakes replaced.

The back tail line consistently goes out.

The check engine has been permanently on despite having my car thoroughly checked and fixed.

The 1,2,3 setting of my heat did not work, and soon no heat at all. Went in and saw that the motor for the heat actually stopped rotating, which caused a plastic piece to burn completely. Anyone with no heat for 1,2,3; it means it has been melted.

My car makes an odd clicking noise in the dash and the starter had to be replaced. It just died and only would make a clicking noise with no other sounds.

Despite it all, it is my little skidoo :) I just won't ever buy this car again.

General Comments:

Reminds me of cheap plastic.
