1988 Porsche 924 924S M030 Club Sport 2.5 Gas

Summary:

Great car, great mileage

Faults:

Cracked #1 cylinder due to owner/driver error.

Replaced the AC Compressor with a rotary compressor.

Seats have some wear, front seats need to be recovered.

General Comments:

I have owned many of these cars, and race one in SCCA. Great cars, great value, but you need to be able to do your own work on them. Paying someone else to do maintenance and fix what ails them is almost prohibitive.

1988 Porsche 924 S 2.5 Gas

Summary:

Bury me in it

Faults:

Very little has gone wrong. I replaced the fuel pump relay module and am currently tracking issues with the cruise control. The car seems solid.

General Comments:

Really like it. It doesn't really compare to the Sprite for driveability. The Porsche being far superior.

Great acceleration and braking, not quite on rails, but handles very well.

1988 Porsche 924 S 2.5

Summary:

Porsche fun for under $4,000

Faults:

It had a front engine seal leak at 189,000. It should've cost $300 to repair, but cost $1900 after taking it to the wrong mechanic. Apparently, not all Porsche mechanics know how to work on the 924.

The clutch master cylinder needed to be replaced at 190,000.

Had the wheels aligned at 190,000.

General Comments:

Overall, this car has the looks and the feel of a 924 with the heart of a 160hp 944. In other words, it's quick, handles great, has a spacious and comfortable cabin, and a good amount of cargo room. The manual gearbox is a little stiff for my tastes, and the slim fenders have limited my options for wider rims and tires, but the car has otherwise been a dream to own... especially when you consider the price.

You can use certain 16" 944 wheels (23.3 offset) and put 7" on the front and 8" on the rear, tucking some great rubber under the fenders.

The 16" wheels and tires from the 968 are a perfect fit on the 924. Fill the fender wells nicely and look great on the 924 body. Perfect tire width for looks and performance.
