1990 Porsche 944 S2 Cabriolet 3.0

Summary:

It's different from a 911, and worth it

Faults:

When purchased it, I changed the timing belt, water pump and timing gears, just to make sure I started with a clean slate.

Since then I have replaced the convertible top, replaced the leather front seats, and several misc. items from the interior.

I also replaced the clutch after it failed horribly by becoming disconnected from the center. The torque tube bearings were failing as well, and were replaced.

General Comments:

While I have seen my share of expensive bits go on the car, it has remained a most reliable sports car that still gets looks wherever I go with it.

And because it is a fairly rare car here in the states, most people have to ask what type of Porsche it is, for this reason I just can't part with the car. Besides the fact that it is so much fun to drive! Especially with the top down.

The interior, while quirky by todays standards, still cleans up nice and is easy to navigate.

1990 Porsche 944 S2 3.0L

Summary:

I STILL can't walk away from it without looking back

Faults:

With the high mileage - many things have failed - but are easily fixed by a DIY person.

These include...

Power locks.

Alarm.

Heater control.

Fan speed control.

Rear defroster.

Clock.

Wiper motor, etc.

General Comments:

The S2 is the best of the 944 breed. Faster than a Turbo around town - but with the smooth Turbo look.

Cheap to buy - but expensive to maintain properly (not as bad as Turbo though). Take care of the car and it will amaze you EVERY day.

There is an outstanding on-line community, where you will find so much help, that the actual cost of owning the car is reduced to research and repair time - a handy home mechanic can fix 90% of all problems with little cost. Visit rennlist.com for more details.

1990 Porsche 944 S2 Cabriolet 3.0 4 Cylinder

Summary:

A stunning looker at a great price

Faults:

Have had no problems with the car as owner. Well serviced at Weissach Performance in Vancouver. The history of a car means everything!

General Comments:

The car surprised me. With only four cylinders the car has a lot more jam than I expected... especially over 4,000 RPM.

The handling is phenomenal, the drive to Whistler, BC is more enjoyable than ever (very winding road)

Very solid... can feel the road with this car better than most coupes.
