General Comments:

This car has been a headache from day 1! Unfortunately, when my 300 E Benz was stolen, I needed cheap wheels and fast. I didn't have much money to spend because I'd lost my job. The fact that I bought this car shows how crazy some people can be. In fact, this car should be considered a "pest" along with all those annoying insects that enter your house.

In other words, this pitiful excuse for a vehicle or whatever it was meant to be is reliable for only one thing: bringing up your medical bills. First chance I get I'm taking this car apart with a wrench and mailing its remains to Antarctica.

Come on dude!!! What do you expect from car that's almost 20 years old?! You wanted a cheap car? Then you pay the price!!

You must have got a dud! Thing is, nobody cares about cheap cars, so they don't get maintained so when YOU buy it breaks down.

Mine was well looked after and is great. I love it.

Plus, the European models are much cuter too.

1980 Renault 5 GTL 1.4 gas

Summary:

Extremely well-suited for urban use

Faults:

Thermofan, 1 fuse.

General Comments:

Efficient, rugged, comfortable performer in the N.Y.C. urban environment (salt, acid rain, potholes, gridlock, tight parallel parking, start-stop short-distance driving, etc.).

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know

1977 Renault 5 GTL 1.3 petrol

Summary:

Fun alternative to an older Beetle

Faults:

Well, it's not an everyday car. Needed a clutch, new carburettor, and shocks. Once they was taken care of, it ended up being a spectacularly fun little runabout. 35-40mpg is also a definite plus.

General Comments:

Love it. I wish Renault, Peugeot, and Citroen would return to the US. Every car sold here is either an SUV or a Toyota Camry (e.g., boring).

A fantastic car, I drove the length and breadth of Britain in this miniature marvel. Very economical, slight roll on corners, but hey! A soft ride! Rear window clips decayed and eventually couldn't be opened, but that wasn't till 1994. I used to comfortably cruise at about 80 mph on the motorway. The headlamps rusted from the inside and cost a fortune to replace though it was very old by then. Lovely responsive car, a pleasure to drive. I bought a Maestro and sold it to a stock car racer. DBR 247S you were great!
