1990 SAAB 900 S 4 door

Summary:

This Saab makes me feel above the rest

Faults:

My first Saab.. Owned a 633 Bimmer, it was nice, but there is nothing like a Saab! Just a power steering leak, and the roof, trunk, and hood (bonnet as the Brits say) need to be painted dark grey again.

General Comments:

Very classy car, everyone looks and stares, everything works on this Saab! Wunderbar!

1990 SAAB 900 16 valve 2.0

Summary:

15 year old design that still gets it right

Faults:

Head line was shot when we bought it, headlight vertical level adjustment cracked shortly after purchase. Radio would not work and rear speakers have jumped ship. Currently tie rod ends need replacement along with a wheel alignment, alternator bushings need replacement, valve cover gasket has worn and is in need of replacement, its just about time for a new timing belt and tune up. Just replaced the water pump which seized and the exhaust pipe which dropped the catalytic converter on the driveway.

General Comments:

Saab's have always been a little quirky and I have had bad experiences with them in the past (transmission), however we were looking for a second car for my wife to use for work and saw this 1990 900 for sale in a driveway. Well $600 later we are the second owner of a fairly well looked after 900. The original owner did a very good job of maintenance and so far the car has exceed my expectations. The problems above are more indicative of age than poor quality and are items I expected to have to attend to. The car does not have a lot of acceleration in the low rpm range, but once it gets up over 3000 rpm it moves very well for a 4 cylinder. At highway speeds 65 to 75 mph the car is rock solid, even for the age the car is fairly quiet at speed. It handles well and has a good amount of interior space. I am 6 foot 1 inch and this is one of the few cars outside of American large sedans that I can fit easily in with plenty of headroom.

I am a 19 year old first car buyer and am interested in a used SAAB 900 S, model 1990. It has 297000 miles on it, but I test drove it and it ran great, any comments? Is fixing a car like this going to be a problem in the future??
