1994 SAAB 9000 CS 2.3 4 cylinder

Summary:

A great car for any use

Faults:

I had to replace the clutch, including the master cylinder, so it ran a good 1400 USD.

Oil is leaking into the combustion chamber when the car is turned off, a little blue smoke comes out of the exhaust when you start the car. Could be a valve or piston ring problem.

Self Stereo replacement is annoying compared to other cars, but the stock stereo itself isn't too bad for stock.

General Comments:

It has the power when it needs to go.

If I added a turbo I'd have more power then a 94 BMW 325i (another car I've driven, not owned)

Surpasses acceleration at higher speeds (55 to 85, etc) compared to 99 Saab 9-5 Turbo.

I would love if the car was rear wheel drive and turbo-charged.

Very comfy, nice cruising car.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

1994 SAAB 9000 CS 2.4 turbo

Summary:

A great performance comfort cruiser!

Faults:

I have only owned this car for a short time now and have had no problems yet.

There is a slight ticking from under the hood.

Clunk sound from the rear suspension on some bumpy areas.

Cruise control does not work.

Radiator light is stuck on though there does not seem to be a problem.

Fume smell like an overheated radiator comes through the climate control system.

General Comments:

I enjoy the comfort and power of this car and the way it hugs the pavement. I drive around two hundred miles a day and purchased it for those reasons.

The miles per gallon could be better. Around town only getting 18.5 MPG and on the highway 20.2 maximum.

There is ample space for my family in both front and back seats as well as good storage in the cargo area.

Some drawbacks are the lack of a glove compartment and cup holders make travelling inconvenient.

The climate control system is complicated, automatic and has to be reset each time you enter the car.

All and all though this is a very comfortable car and a joy to drive especially on the highway.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know

About your climate control:

If you press the windscreen and vent (top most and bottom most) air distribution buttons together, it will memorise the current settings to be used every time it is switched on.

I have a 1993 9000CS too, 120,000 miles.

I have the same clicking under the hood:

Saab mechanic said the lifters are ticking.

Suggestion: Have the head rebuilt & replace the timing chain and counterbalance chain at the same time.

Cost: $2,600.000

I have the same clunk in the rear.

Not sure of the cause or cost.

Radiator smell from the heater:

Cause: Leaking heater core.

Suggestion: Have heater core replaced. I did my own, but the cost is about $800.

John

This comment is in reply to the previous comment regarding an overheating Saab at standby.

Under normal motoring conditions, cold air passes into the engine to cool the motor via front air-intakes. However, when the car is standing still obviously this cannot occur. So this radiant heat has no way of dispersing - enter the thematic fan. These are designed to push cold air onto the motor when the car is stopped or travelling at slow speeds. However, sometimes the sensors which govern when the fan is implemented gets broken and subsequently does not turn on and keep the engine cool. I have a 1989 Saab 900i which had this problem. Hope that helps!
