1992 Saturn SC 1.9L

Summary:

Wish I hadn't waited so long to get one!

Faults:

The tubing that runs to the windscreen jets broke. They looked original, so for 215000 miles I can live with that.

Sometime before I got it, it seems that the "key-in-ignition" warning got toasted... so I just put the key in and start it.

The Air Conditioner is next on my project list to fix.

General Comments:

The Saturn SC is an awesome poor-man's sports car. Handles smartly on the open road and nice and tight on the curves.

The suspension leaves a bit to be desired for comfort, but for the handling rewards it is worth the hard ride. On the interstate it doesn't bother me at all!

1992 Saturn SC SC2 1.9 twin cam

Summary:

Good cheap sporty car!

Faults:

The alternator had many problems over the years I drove it - that and the clutch had to be replaced at least twice. Plus the thing ate through oil like crazy! I'd have to change it every 2000 miles - other than that, just normal wear-and-tear.

General Comments:

Awesome car for the value! Nothing major went wrong until the car was 10 years old - can't complain! The service was amazing and the gas was cheap! I do miss this car! It handled really well in a head-on-collision - no one was hurt, and the car fared well too.

1992 Saturn SC SC2 1.9L DOHC

Faults:

Re-occuring Front Disc Rotor warpage. Radiator was replaced with an all metal one. Clutch job at 175,000 km's, may have been premature due to my hard driving habits. Valve job @ 216,000 km.

Pop-up headlight motors just went after 6 years.

General Comments:

Overall, its never let me down and is a pleasure to drive, if you enjoy a tighter sports suspension feel. Motorized seat belts still working great, with bi-yearly lubrication. Paint quality still looks great after 6 yrs and those dent resistant side panels are great, no small dings or rust. Dealership Service is outstanding. However, my wife hates it, says its too damned small & low to the ground.... Nothing like it on a twisting country road!

I bought the car July 2, 2003, car had been sitting for about 6 months and it's a really nice car, been having a few problems though. When I test drove the car it would hesitate quite a bit and it stalled once (automatic), but now I changed the spark plugs and there was oil in there, and now the car puts out blue smoke. But once I find the problem, I am sure it will be a great car.

Just purchased a 1992 sc2,with 187000kms, what I hadn't noticed till I bought my morning coffee is that there wasn't a cup-holder in the front (I think it's a big thing). Anyway the car looks like new, the previous owner did a timing rebuild and clutch replacement. It handles great and the engine has a lot of power for a four cylinder. I'd prefer if there were more resources dealing with maintaining the seatbelts and headlights.

I have had my Saturn SC2 for about a year now and it is a great little car. I just had to replace the clutch (It was the original, 12 years old), and I have to also replace the O rings and that's all that is wrong with it except some interior damage. For a car that is 12 years old and has over 200,000 miles that is very little to replace. I suggest this car for anyone who wants a low mantainced vehicle.

1992 Saturn SC

Faults:

Bad in a hot rain. Can't have the window down even a little in the rain cause water runs in.

No other problem in nearly 6 years.

General Comments:

Very reliable. A lot of fun to drive.

Not for anyone over 185 cm. Back seat for kids and dog only.

I plan to buy another if this one ever fails.
