1992 Subaru SVX

Summary:

Rare and sexy sports/GT that you can drive 12 months a year

Faults:

My SVX had not been driven much the last 4 years, so needed a good, long run on the highway.

Sunroof opened and closed sometimes, and sometimes not. Again, from sitting and not used.

I owned a Subaru XT before this one, and always wanted an SVX that I could afford to buy at a reasonable price.

Mine is a '92 model with the touring option package, all the usual features and with only 170,000 kms, one owner, local car and so far I love my SVX. Has been super reliable, fairly economical - (I don't drive like a maniac), very comfortable, feels stable and very well built. I'd drive it cross - country right now without too much thought or worry.

Mine was originally owned by an individual who never scrimped on regular maintenance, and I guess that's the secret to buying not just an SVX, but any used car. You get what you pay for!!!

General Comments:

Super car for the price I paid for it.

1992 Subaru SVX

Summary:

They should have stuck with this head-turning model, because it has amazing potential

Faults:

Transmission.

General Comments:

If God made a car, it would be just like the SVX... but with a better transmission, a lighter body (or better brakes) and cheaper fuel.

1992 Subaru SVX LSi 3.3L Flat 6

Summary:

Find a good, clean example and drive it forever

Faults:

Power steering reservoir leaked, made groaning sound when turning sometimes. Replaced the O-ring between reservoir and pump, simple fix.

Added rubber to the rear sub frame mounts to stiffen them back up.

Replaced the original sway bar bushings with urethane.

Added transmission cooler and remote filter for longevity.

Automatic All wheel drive is not so great on the earlier years, jerky operation.

General Comments:

Where to start? This is such a great car, I wish I could have kept it. First off, the shape of the car is to die for, sleek, sharp front end with a low roof line and relatively wide stance. All the body and glass joints are smooth and the windows are fun.

The engine is smooth, good power (not sports car power, but good GT car power), and bulletproof. This is probably one of the best road trip cars I could think of - for the price. Comfortable, reliable, all the amenities you need in the car (except a cup holder). Only problem I found was unwanted attention at gas stations and parking lots, but you get used to it.

All in all a great value and sheer pleasure to drive. I will own one again. Had to sell it to make room for a car better suited to autocross duties.

1992 Subaru SVX LS - L 3.3 Flat 6

Summary:

Well rounded, yet highly aggressive

Faults:

Had to replace the air-bag and rear suspension on the passenger side, after having a bit of a run in with a Blazer. The car ended up sailing through the air with all four wheels off the ground, and when it landed, took out the passenger side wheels, and set off the air bag.

After a week in the shop, it was all fixed, except for a dent on my door and rear passenger side fender.

General Comments:

I have only had this car for 2 months now, and put about 1500 miles on it.

I love the car. The only drawback is that it's a little low to the ground, which makes getting in and out slightly uncomfortable.

Performance is second to none. My last car was a turbo 924; I was in love with that car, but relocating to the east coast meant buying a new car.

I would recommend this car to anyone who wants a fun to drive, reliable car.

1992 Subaru SVX LsL 3.3

Summary:

An amazing piece of road art!

Faults:

Just general wear and tear. Nothing major, had a small hairline crack in the radiator, had to get a new one, $560. Into preventative maintenance more than anything. Car has avg wear, drivers seat shows small wear. Dealership isn't too thrilled when I come in, but I'm looking for a new one.

General Comments:

I seriously LOVE this car, I cannot say enough good things about it, it's awesome in the snows, It's like a wolf in sheep's clothing. It has a super sleek style, I STILL get asked about it a lot. Many high end features that car makers now are just starting to catch up on, wipers are seriously speed sensitive, heated mirrors, auto climate, goes on and on. BEST vision in the world, and that's saying a lot since it sits pretty low, and visibility rocks! HIGHLY recommend one to anyone who's ever thought about it! You take care of the car, and it'll take care of you!!
