1994 Subaru SVX ZX3 3.3

Summary:

Ahead of its time and very reliable

Faults:

One and only problem with the car was an oxygen sensor.

General Comments:

I love this car. It performs great, very comfortable on the highway for those long trips.

This car was one of the most reliable cars I have ever owned. I have had an Acura Integra, which was a money pit, a Jeep Grand Cherokee that still needs parts, and a Saab, which is a great car, other than the cost to maintain.

Like I said, the only things this car ever needed was the oxygen sensor. Yeah I could not keep up with buying new tires and replacing brake pads for this car, but that's because I never gave this car a break. It had plenty of power and I used it all.

There was only one "hiccup" with this car, which was when it died on me when I was driving, but it never happened again, so I dismiss that as a problem.

Because this was the front wheel drive version and not the AWD, driving this car in the snow with OK tires was like ice skating on the roads.

And yeah the 19 gallon tank did not get me very far because of the gas mileage, but I always got there very quickly.

1994 Subaru SVX L 3.3

Summary:

This car should be in the Impreza's place!!!

Faults:

The timing belt, cam seals, and PVC hoses had to be replaced when I took it to a shop shortly after purchase.

The transmission failed at 138646 miles.

Battery, then alternator, and finally starter have been replaced along with front tires.

Needs a new paint job, and an external cooler for the transmission.

General Comments:

I recently wrote a comment towards the LSi owner who dissed the SVX (the really long one.) I basically said everything about my SVX, but I have a little more.

Yes, this car is a hassle when it comes to repairs, but if you research the car, keep up maintenance, and have patience, this is a great car to have. Check out cardomain.com ; svx-iw.com ; carfax.com ; just search and you will know your car so good that you'll almost know exactly what is wrong.

Was your SVX stalling before you took it in for repairs??

No, I've not taken this SVX for repair yet. Got this car about 2 years ago. About 3 months later I was driving home, and was about 2 blocks away from my house, when the engine just stopped running. I just noticed that the steering was heavy and I stepped on the gas... nothing. Dead in the middle of the street. Was able to restart it without any problem. After a while, I've been noticing it stalling when I'm slowing down near corners.

It's most likely the mass air flow (MAS) sensor. There's a way to check the engine codes to confirm this. A common problem with the SVX.

1994 Subaru SVX LSi 3.3 Boxer

Summary:

Remarkable car

Faults:

I have had the battery die while I was at work for no apparent reason, and have also broken an axle.

Otherwise just stuff that needs to be replaced with age.

General Comments:

I love the car. There is almost nothing more entertaining than having a kid with a Civic pull up next to you and try and race. For the most part if the driver knows what they are doing and/or the car is seriously that built, I can leave them in the dust.

When it isn't racing around, it is also just a very nice car to drive normally. It gets a lot of looks at stop lights. This car really attracts attention.

It might not be the fastest car, or the best looking car, or the most comfortable car on the road, but the SVX definitely gets the job done.

The only down side to the car is if something breaks it is expensive to fix.
