1989 Toyota 4x4 V6

Summary:

Love it!

Faults:

Recall for steering rod.

Oil pump out at 210,000.

Otherwise, just plugs, wires, water pump and normal stuff.

General Comments:

Best truck I have ever owned.

I even recently purchased a 1994 4x4 extended cab V-6 with 62,000 original miles.

Excellent truck for all around purposes.

1989 Toyota 4x4 Xtra cab 3.0

Summary:

I love my truck!!!

Faults:

Over heating (head gasket problem) at 75,000. After being fixed by the dealer (recall), it ran excellent.

Seats (split) have some wear, and also the paint is fading.

General Comments:

I get a lot of offers on my truck; I turn down so many.

I'm the original owner, and it's the best off road and on road vehicle I've ever owned. Like they said; it's bullet proof!!!

1989 Toyota 4x4 2.2

Summary:

This is a great daily driver with great off-road capabalities

Faults:

The heater core quit at about 135,000 miles.

The body, mostly the bed and bottoms of my doors are starting to rust badly.

Not a very fast truck with larger tires, actually its not fast at all period, but very reliable.

General Comments:

I will own this truck until the frame rots out then have it repaired and keep driving it.

This truck is very reliable, and very off road capable. I have installed a 2" lift and 32" tires and find it handles most terrain with ease. I have gotten it stuck in deep mud a few times but we all do that occasionally. I do not suggest going any larger than 32's with only a 2" lift as the tires do rub occasionally when you do need to make a sharp turn

It's also very easy to fix for any level of back-yard mechanic.

The ride is not exactly the most comfortable out there, but what do you want from a truck. If you are looking for a Cadallic type ride then this is not the truck for you.

1989 Toyota 4x4 Deluxe 4 cylinder 22RE

Summary:

Nice truck, worth the minor hassles

Faults:

The exhaust manifold is cracked or has a bad gasket. I'm not positive, because I haven't given it much attention yet.

The rear-end leaked (poured) out on a long trip. It was due to the seal where the U-joint bolts to the differential. It was a cheap fix, but the mechanic said the rear-end may need a rebuild someday because of the amount of play in the drive shaft. I think this is a common problem. I think I'll let it go for now.

Some rust, but not as bad as most Toyotas, since it was repainted. I have read that the pickups manufactured in Japan are less prone to rust and mine also fits that description (I found out on Carfax.com, on the quick summary, without paying for the full report). I hate rust.

General Comments:

It is a really nice looking pickup and the engine runs very smooth. The acceleration is good. The owner before me put some over-sized tires, not sure what size, but the mini 4 cylinder doesn't seem to mind too much. The truck's power actually surprises me, but the previous owner did some performance upgrades (ie: super coil, split fire plugs, and probably some other stuff, but I don't know).

I bought the pickup specifically for hauling my boat so it doesn't stand to see too many miles as long as I own it.

I agree with people who do not like the bench seat, it isn't too comfortable, but OK for short trips.

I think the ride is smooth, compared with what other people have said about their Toyotas. Maybe it is the tires, but I don't know. The road noise is sort of bad, but some of that is due to my exhaust problem.

Once I fix the exhaust manifold problem, I think I will like the truck much more. On one trip, I think I almost passed out from the carbon monoxide.

The truck's tires puts the speedometer/odometer off a few miles, not sure how many yet. The gas mileage is not all that bad for a pickup, but I like 30+ miles per gallon usually, for my vehicles.

All in all, it is a really nice little pickup truck with big tires. It is the kind of truck you feel like fixing up because it just looks nice. Good truck.

GVWR = truck plus trailer if the truck and trailer is more than the GVWR you can be ticketed.

Weigh your truck and trailer at any truck stop for a small fee.

GVW is truck.

GVWR is what the truck and what it is pulling weighs together, including you and your stuff.

1989 Toyota 4x4 Pickup

Faults:

Rear end gave out after 80,000 miles - a seemingly common problem, the body is prone to rust - I've gone through two exhaust pipes plus experienced a cracked exhaust manifold.

General Comments:

Overall, I would definitely consider purchasing another Toyota 4x4 pickup.

If you crack your exhaust manifold, what are the signs that it has been cracked? I have a sound right by the manifold that's pretty loud; I thought that it might just be the gasket? Maybe I'm wrong. Any help would be appreciated.
