1990 Toyota 4x4 SR5 Extra Cab 3.0L V6

Summary:

Have never regretted the purchase!

Faults:

Had a head gasket blow at about 110k. Dealer took care of it all, minus the new oil and antifreeze.

General Comments:

I bought this truck new to replace 2 prior 4x4 pickup purchases from Toyota. Have owned it since new, and will probably never sell it.

Just replaced the front CV joints, the first time in 20 years, and have never done a u-joint. I am amazed at how minimal service has been, other than the usual timing belts, oil changes, brakes, etc.

The electricals all still work, including power windows, mirrors, antenna, cruise control, etc.

This little truck has made a believer of many of my full size truck peers in the construction industry. These trucks were built to be serious 4x4s, and as a result are incredibly overbuilt. Granted they were never meant to set records in the 1/4 mile, but they make up for it in reliability and dependability.

I have since bought a new Tundra, mainly based on my kids not fitting into the little SR5 anymore. It's another great product, but just not the same. I still would rather drive the '90.

1990 Toyota 4x4 Deluxe Xtra Cab 3.0 litre V6

Summary:

I love this truck. Don't mess with my truck

Faults:

My head gasket blew twice.

The first time it happened, there was no recall yet on the truck, and I cracked my cylinder head, and had to pay for it out of pocket.

Years later, the head gasket blew, and I cracked my engine block, but that time Toyota rebuilt the whole engine for nothing, except the cost of a new water pump and timing belt... figured they were already down there... and it had around 107,000 miles at the time.

General Comments:

I've had this truck for 18 years, driven this car from coast to coast, through snow and ice, heat and rain, at high speeds over 100 miles an hour, 80 through the snow, and this truck always keeps going, and well.

My father just passed away and left me a 2008 Honda CRV with less than 10,000 miles, and I still don't want to give up this truck.

1990 Toyota 4x4 SR5 Xtra Cab V6 3.0

Summary:

The absolute most trouble free vehicle I have ever owned!

Faults:

Small bubbles of rust, but dealer has been repairing as purchased Lifetime Rust Warranty from new!

General Comments:

This truck still looks and runs like new. I've done regular maintaince like timing belts, oil changes, packing wheel bearings etc. This truck has been phenomenal, and my dealer has been also. I can't say enough good things about this truck or my Dealership, Frank Dunn Toyota Prince Albert, Saskatchewan Canada.

1990 Toyota 4x4 rs22 V6

Summary:

Fun to drive, and dependable

Faults:

Fuel injector, and o seals.

General Comments:

I find that this little truck is a kick to drive, but on an icy road you can lose control very easy. weight in the bed certainly helps. My biggest complaint is the location of the seat belt (shoulder) as it rubs my neck. Other than these items this truck should have been in my life a decade ago. I've had my ford for the past 24 years, hopefully this little toyota can match it.

1990 Toyota 4x4 Not Certain 2.4 Liter EFI

Summary:

Very dependable, long-lasting. Great investment, and cheap to run

Faults:

I have only had the truck for about 3 weeks, and nothing has gone wrong with it yet, except that the freon appears to have leaked out causing the AC to blow warm now.

General Comments:

I probably shouldn't be writing a review so soon after purchasing my truck, but I am so impressed with the way it drives and handles with 241,000 original miles on it that I had to write it down. I sold my previous truck which was a 1982 Dodge Ram 1/2 ton that also had 240,000 original miles. However, the Dodge felt worn out, loose, and used oil. The Toyota drives and feels like a new vehicle, uses no oil, and the original paint is still in excellent condition, 14 years after being built.

The truck runs great, is smooth, and very quiet.

The interior is comfortable, and still in decent condition, although the seats have a few small tears in the fabric. I will be installing seat covers. I purchased the regular cab because I was having a hard time finding an extended cab, which was my first choice. I wasn't particularly looking for a 4x4, but it's nice having it on the rare occasions when I might need that feature. (I own a 4x4 Blazer that has seen some use on my property, so I have some experience with them)

I just calculated the gas mileage today, and I am getting 23.3 miles per gallon, which beats the heck out of the 10 mpg I was used to getting in my full sized truck.

I hope to drive this thing 400-500 thousand miles like some Toyota's I have read about. This one seems to be off to a good start.

I am from Athens GA and have just bought a 1990 Toyota 4x4 with 171,000 original miles and everything that's been said about these trucks is true, they drive like a car even with all-terrain tires. I drove a jeep cherokee that has 230,000 miles on it and it was worn out at 130,000. I will never drive an American made automobile untill drastic improvements are made. For the money cars just do not last. There's a good chance that I will still be driving my Toyota when my neighbor's brand new explorer goes to the dump.

Thanks to everyone for their comments. I am looking for a truck to replace my 98 jetta TDI with 175,00 miles that I purchased new. I just drove an 89 SR5 4x4 with 200,000 miles, spotless interior, and even blows cold air. I think I am sold on it.

It is a great truck. I wouldn't have anything else any other way. It's really awesome truck at affordable prices. So far, very reliable.
