If you want something with flare GM offers the Malibu and Ford offers the Fusion. I think you can get a Fusion with power windows and mirrors for a good price. Other than those two beautiful cars that are the most fun to drive and are faster than anything on the road I would recommend the Honda Accord. They are pricey they sure do last long and look good.

Did you not test drive? Why not get the 6 cylinder? You really can't complain TOO much about not being fun to drive because you opted for the automatic. Buy a v-6 standard shift if you want more of a driving experience.

Better yet, buy a Fusion, which handles like a $40,000 sports sedan, has greater reliability and costs LESS than the over-rated and problem-prone Camry. I've driven both, and the Fusion beats the Camry in EVERY respect. Even the highly biased Car and Driver agreed in its comparison of Camry and Fusion last year. Toyota has been plagued by numerous problems lately, so I'd steer clear of them.

Yet another poster complaining mostly about problems that would have been evident on a five minute test drive.

A lot of people who buy Camrys do not even shop around for other models like an Accord or Altima so they will have to learn to bit the bullet and drive vanilla and slow.

2005 Toyota Camry LE 4 cylinder, V4

Summary:

Camry and the Toyota brand is no longer reliable

Faults:

The steering wheel was making knocking noise even when the mileage was less than 36000 miles. When I pointed out to the dealership, I was told that I should service the steering wheel column and it won't be covered under the warranty as it is a regular maintenance issue. I did not have that service done back then. Now when it is 43000 miles, I took it to the same dealership and I was told that the steering wheel connecting shaft should be replace and it cost me $450. They didn't even recollect what they said and I had no written proof. I did not expect this from a relatively new Camry.

General Comments:

Toyota is a media hyped name. It's performance and reliability as well as dealer service has deteriorated. I had a Honda Civic which I drove for 50,000 miles and it performed much better that the Camry that I have. My Camry is turning out to be a pet elephant.

So are you saying that you tried to save a few bucks by not "servicing" the steering wheel, and now it's come back to cost you $450.??? Just how would they have serviced the wheel? Would they have found the worn-out part & replaced it under warranty?

I think Toyotas are as good as they get (no I don't own one), so I can't agree with your sentiments about the make.

2005 Toyota Camry LE 2.4

Summary:

Dependable, comfortable and takes you there and back

Faults:

Absolutely nothing. This is our third Camry with the 4 banger and extremely pleased with the performance, interior room/comfort and quality. We purchased this model off the showroom floor - loaded with all the bells and whistles. With 30,000 miles on the odometer, we look forward to another 300,000 plus Camry as our previous vehicles. The 2.4 accelerates responsively and gets about 27 city and 35 highway with moderate speeds. I will definitely continue to purchase Toyota products as long as the quality continues.
