1985 Toyota Celica 1985 celica GT hatch back 22R-E

Summary:

Exciting transportation with minimal costs

Faults:

Recently had to replace oil seals for the rack and pinion power steering unit as well as new boots.

At about 100,000 km I had to replace the clutch pressure plate and release bearing.

Also just recently replaced leaking power steering lines.

Drivers seat has worn considerably and has been duct taped much to the embarassment of my two kids.

General Comments:

This car handles like the day I purchased it, It is a pleasure to drive with ample power for highway and city.

Gas mileage is also very reasonable at 500km per tank.

Reliability of this car is second to none, It has never left me stranded and wouldn't hesitate to drive it anywhere. There is also plenty of space with the hatch back and folding rear seats.

1985 Toyota Celica GT 2.4

Summary:

Cheap speed

Faults:

The brakes were bad when I got it. then the battery was replaced to make it start on cold day. shortly after that the alternator went bad.

The air now went out and they want $300 to even look at it.

General Comments:

A fast car easy to pass with. can beat most other cars. can put open air intake. Sounds better then.

1985 Toyota Celica GT 2.4L

Summary:

Hard to imagine more reliable car, only diesel maybe

Faults:

Previous owner did not bother to take care of the brake rotors or pads, so it was worn till metal and eventually locked up, as some one had the whole right brake line blocked with a nail. I have replaced both calipers - 15$ each and both rotors 15$ and 10$ respectively. All parts we used and perform great after a year of service.

Water pump broke, replaced it myself with a used one from the similar car, found on the junk yard. Water pump with fan, pulleys, additional belts cost me only 5$. Works perfect ever since, one year has gone.

For safety reasons, mostly emotional, replaced a tie rod end, which felt suspiciously soft. This was done before the round trip from Alabama to New York.

Head lights circuit broke, used a straight positive wire, manually, not much problem, and performs the job as suppose to.

At the mileage 233 000 started to get it read for a cross country trip, replaced all hoses, all belts, spark plugs, wires, rotor, cap, fuel, air, transmission, filters. Machined rear drums put new brake shoes, checked the tires.

Put a new muffler, since it did not have any at the time of purchase. (20$ at Advanced Auto Parts).

General Comments:

A at the present time car drives reliably from state to state. Since departure, car traveled ~ 5000 miles across the desert, in the mountains. Neither engine nor transmission show signs of wear, which seriously surprises me. Engine does not use any oil, transmission fluid level stays at the same mark for a year. Transmission shifts normal. Engine is quite and smooth.

Recieved unbelievable service out of the car, especially considering that I only paid 50$ for it, at a nice town Fort Wayne, IN. :)

Overall amount of money spent for servicing the car is ~ 200$.

Main thing, almost forgot to mention. Car gets 40 mpg on the highway, at 55 mph.

1985 Toyota Celica GT 2.4 UL

Summary:

I love what you do for me, Toyota!!

Faults:

Old cars are hard to keep from rusting. So, there is a well-rusted hatchback door on it.

The Igniter coil needed to be replaced once. This was followed by the igniter assembly.

General Comments:

This is the second car I've owned and I love it. ($400)

The car is running like a beast. Because of this, the only cars I look forward to buying is either a Toyota (Corolla) or a Lexus (SC430).

1985 Toyota Celica GT-S 2.2 RE

Summary:

A high performance vehicle at a low price

Faults:

The son of the person I bought the car from is a teenager and he ruined the interior. So comfort for me is not that good in the Celica. Also I don't like the stereo set up that Toyota made for this car. The RocketPint steering is out. So the steering wheel shakes. Also there was no power steering fluid in the car.

General Comments:

My Celica is very quick off of the line. I beat a 1995 Eclipse Talon in a drag race at Route 66 dragway in Joliet, IL. I love the car because it is sporty, I haven't had any problems with the engine except for a few minor things which got fixed and are running good. I own a 12" subwoofer which fits perfectly in the back of the Celica trunk. Also the Celica is a good sound car. I get more bass in the Celica then I did the Camaro. I recommend this car for performance sound to everyone.
