2000 Toyota Celica GTS 1.8

Summary:

Peppy and fun to drive

Faults:

I guess I have a few complaints since leasing this car. Primarily the field of vision out the rear window is somewhat limited, especially if you have the rear spoiler. Living in the Northeast I have had some tire problems in the cold weather. The Yokohama 16 inch tires have gone flat on me a few times. This really annoyed me.

I have also noticed wind noise coming from the driver's side window. This is nothing huge but is annoying.

I am pretty surprised that Toyota also did not install a telescopic antenna on this badboy. It is really annoying to have to take off the antenna every time you go through a carwash.

My last complaint is about the gas tank. What were they thinking? Pathetic.

General Comments:

In general the car is fun to drive but I am not going to re-lease the Celica. Toyota could have refined this car a little bit more. You are probably better off with a Prelude in this class.

2000 Toyota Celica GT-S 1.8 VVT-i

Summary:

This car looks good, feels good, and handles great

Faults:

Nothing, I just got the car, although the battery was dead when I went to test drive it.

General Comments:

I find that you need to know how to drive before you buy this car. It is hard to see out the rear side windows like you are suppose to when switching lanes. It is also difficult to see out the back if you have a rear spoiler. So all the people who think you can drive, this car really will test you.

The car has the power when you need it, when passing at higher speeds especially. You won't beat some other cars in its class off the line, but you will look better driving around town.

The 6 speed gear box takes a bit of getting used to.

I got an excellent car at an excellent price.

I recently went car shopping and I ran into several cars that had dead batteries. It is just from sittiing for a while. Sounds like you got a good car tho

2000 Toyota Celica GT-S 1.8 DOHC

Summary:

A high-performing bargain

Faults:

None, though the passenger's side door panel rattles if I turn the bass up on the stereo.

General Comments:

This car is amazing value for money. I do not know why anyone would go and buy anything else that is in its price range and class. It is comfortable, has a nice interior/great stereo, good performance, great handling and braking, and still cost me US$22,960 fully equipped with every option (including leather).

I test drove every other car in its class (Prelude, Integra GS-R, Golf VR-6, Eclipse GT), and I bought the Celica 3 days after I test drove it (it was my last test drive).

It does have poor rear visibility though, but I am used to it because I owned a Corrado before.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know

2000 Toyota Celica GTS 1.8 VVTL-i

Summary:

An affordable car for the driving enthusiast

Faults:

Nothing and not anticipating any problems either - be careful of the front spoiler when parking at convenience stores (curbs)!!!

General Comments:

This car is definitely in need of a good driver to get the most out of it - the power curve (above 6k) can be maintained between shifts with a little practice, timing, and tricky footwork with the gas pedal... those questionably published times of 0-60 below 7 seconds might just be possible if you nail it.

The car just looks unique, sounds good when you floor it in the middle of the rpm range, and the handling is exceptional.. and the brakes - WOW - they weren't kidding when they said this is Porsche territory.

Inside the cockpit the styling is great and the leather is nice but I agree with some critics that there is some plastic inside - a little carbon fibre treatment would dress it up nicely.

So far I really enjoy driving this car - visibility is lacking to the rear but you should be turning to look anyway when switching lanes like they taught you in drivers school way back when.

This car in my opinion is only suitable in 6-speed form... if you want an automatic, get the GT or you are wasting your money on the GTS.

My experience with the dealer was excellent and exceeded my expectations.

He's right... the GT-S is probably the worst car in automatic form. I cannot understand why you'd pay more when you're going to lack so much in performance.
