1982 Toyota Corolla 1.6

Summary:

Excellent for young drivers

Faults:

In my 6 years of driving this 20 year old beauty, the only repairs have been to hoses and some minor radiator repairs.

The only major problem has been the muffler falling off due to rust damage.

The only unavoidable problem was due to the Michigan climate. The body is showing a little bit of rust.

General Comments:

This is the best car for a student or young driver.

My Corolla has always been there for me.

Even after 20 years, the engine runs like it just came off the line.

Not a lot of space for passengers.

A very fun car.

1982 Toyota Corolla 2 door 1.8

Summary:

Excellent car considering it's going on 19 years old

Faults:

No mechanical attention required other than replacing the water pump and battery once.

General Comments:

Primary use of vehicle was for its extremely low consumption of fuel while travelling to and from college several years ago. Although I recently purchased a Toyota 4Runner, I alternate vehicles every other week (A week, B week) in order to keep miles low on the 4Runner (19mpg) while saving fuel on Corolla (35mpg).

Car has traveled several times to Mexico, California, Utah and Wyoming flawlessly. Not the fastest or most comfortable car but will get the job done. *Wife insists I sell the vehicle. I tell her she will probably go first =)

Smart man! You'll get better service with less maintenance out of an '82 Corolla than any wife.

Awesome dude. It's depressing how many guys will throw a cherished vehicle out the window, due to the insistence of their significant other. I told my GF the same thing you did with my car: a 91 Ford Festiva. Luckily, she thinks it's adorable and loves it (it's what she used to learn to drive stick). Those tiny little foreign go-carts are economical, reliable as hammers, and have personality, unlike today's jelly beans, which are merely tools for transportation.

Somebody around my area is selling an '81 Corolla hatchback with a bad clutch for $350 (part included). I should go look at it, and hope it's not held together with rust.
