1996 Toyota Corolla 1.8 gas

Summary:

I couldn't be happier with it

Faults:

Besides the regular maintenance, nothing has failed on the vehicle.

The only thing that I thought was major at first, but ended up being maintenance was the timing belt. Being a college student, $350 is a big deal.

General Comments:

This car is so worth so much more than I paid for it. Even though it has almost no creature comforts, it feels like a luxury car to me because my last vehicles were a 1977 British Leyland hatchback and a 1984 Toyota truck.

The ride is very comfortable and low speeds and on the freeway, even at 85 mph.

The interior is roomy enough for me (5'7") and all of my stuff.

The exterior is holding up very well, no rust (even though it's a Colorado car where there is a lot of snow and salt on the road), and despite it being hit once in the front, it still drives straight and the unibody is not crooked.

The best part about this car is that it gets up and goes. Now I don't know if it has something done to the engine, because I've driven other Corollas before and was not particularly impressed with the acceleration, but this car gets to 60 in a little less than 8 sec. It was almost out do my sister's RSX to 45 mph. (Her car is an automatic, without the Type S engine)

Currently it has almost 120K on the clock and honestly, it still feels like the day I bought it. It still gets 37 mpg, it's still fast, and it makes no unusual noises. I couldn't be happier with it.

1996 Toyota Corolla 1.6

Summary:

Reliable and "humble"

Faults:

I have owned my Corolla for a little over 8 years (140000kms) and have never had any significant problems with it.

The paint peeled a bit at the back after 3 years of owning the vehicle.

General Comments:

This is the most reliable vehicle I have owned.

I just followed regular maintenance and never had anything break on me.

Great gas mileage.

Vehicle doesn't feel safe... i.e. thin doors, small, sitting very low.

Great city car, but lacks power on highway (I am glad I have the standard version as automatic version must be sluggish on acceleration.)

1996 Toyota Corolla DX 1.8

Summary:

Best vehicle investment I've ever made!

Faults:

Not one thing has failed on this car. It is still in excellent condition.

General Comments:

Has been one of the best cars I've ever owned, period.

Excellent gas mileage, 28-34 mpg.

Just changed the oil every 5000 miles, and put one set of new tires on it.

It still has original brake pads on it, at 94,000 miles.

Expect to get 250,000 miles before it dies, Toyota build quality cars!

I own a 96 Corolla and just replaced the motor at 264,000 miles. Other than that, only routine maintenance was needed to be done. If you find one of these, do not hesitate to buy it!

I just purchased a used '96 Corolla, and I'm completely impressed with the smooth ride, capable handling, fuel efficiency and zippy (for a small 4 cylinder) performance--what a solid car! It seems like rear power window problems are persistent in the '96 Corolla. Although mine haven't failed, they do squeal loudly when used. But for as well-built and dependable as this car is, it seems a fair trade-off.

Regarding squealing windows. Take out the cover and spray some WD40 on the gear teeth. That really helps.

I love my 96 Corolla! I bought it with only 32 miles and now I have 127,000+ miles. I have only had to replace the starter and the timing belt (which had not even gone out). I would definitely buy it again as well as recommend it to anyone.

I have a 1996 Toyota Corolla, I'm 57 years old and owned my own garage, this is the best buy on the market, I have over 103,000 miles on it with only tires to buy. Buy one you will thank me later. Toyota made this car to last.

Sincerely Dave.

I own a 2004 Toyota Corolla S since the end of 2003. I purchased the car brand new and put 60,000 miles on it. At 30,000 miles, I changed the brake pads and routinely give it an oil change about every 3,000 miles. The car runs perfect! This car continues to be a reliable and stylish vehicle that is very fuel efficient. Just add gas and go! No worries.

My Toyota Corolla DX 1.3 is still working perfect until now.

I purchased this wonderful car in 2000. Since then it is perfect. I love my car.
