1985 Toyota Landcruiser 4.2L 6 cylinder

Summary:

It's slow, but strong and steady, and reliable

Faults:

Water pump replaced at 90k.

Rear springs sag.

Small rust spots on the tail gate door.

Paint faded last year.

Difficult shift to 2nd when cold.

Exhaust gasket makes a noise when accelerating.

Transfer case leaks.

Seal between tranny and engine leaks.

General Comments:

It's hard to start, but runs like a champ -- a slow, but strong champ...

Tows anything without a problem. Loads of torque, but not much revs.

Original 1985 A/C blows cold! Easy to adjust the valves.

Driver's seat is made for Japanese midgets -- too close and too high for me.

I get thumbs up from teenagers! Must be doing something right.

Understeers like crazy, and rolls a lot, but overall good handling.

Has held up very well for a 28 year old truck.

1985 Toyota Landcruiser

Summary:

Love it

Faults:

Fuel pump needed replacing at 105000.

General Comments:

One of the most reliable vehicles I have ever owned. When I purchased this truck it had a small battery and things were not working the best. Once I put the recommended battery in, all is well. My small family has taken this truck for a 10 day camping trip covering over 2000 miles and it brought us back safe and sound. The only hesitation is gas $$. But as any SUV one has to give up something.
