2014 Toyota Matrix LS 1.8

Summary:

Excellent reliability and I will be loyal to the Toyota brand...

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

Top marks for reliability. After 10 years and 200K everything works and there is no rust... So far nothing was wrong on this car; I have performed only regular engine oil changes (every 5000km instead of Toyota recommended 8000km) and transmission oil changes. I have not spent any money on repairs. In the past I have driven cars made by Opel (GM Germany), Suzuki, VW, Mitsubishi, Ford, Saturn, Hyundai... Toyota is the most reliable and I will stick with Toyota as long as I am capable to drive...

P.S. The Matrix was manufactured in Canada and it is based on the Toyota Corolla. The Matrix was sold only in North America.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know

Smart idea on doing oil changes early. Toyota seems to have an ongoing oil sludge and consumption problem.

They "Had" an oil sludging problem oh... around 15 years ago.

Maybe so, haven't ventured down the Toyota road ever since we unloaded a 2003 model with the 1.8 4 cylinder after replacing the engine due to the sludge problem.

But there is no denying that there is a current oil consumption issue on newer models.

Either problem, sludge or consumption can destroy the engine. For whatever reason Toyota still cannot get it right with the oiling system design on their engines.
