1993 Toyota Pickup DX 3.0L V6

Summary:

Very reliable truck, great value

Faults:

Only one manufacturer recall for a minor issue.

No major mechanical issues with the truck over its entire life.

Only routine maintenance, and the infrequent replacement of a worn part.

Had to replace the radiator once because of a crack... don't know if it was due to road damage or bad manufacturing. That was the most expensive repair I ever had to pay for.

General Comments:

1993 Toyota 4x4 Pickup with a 3.0L V6.

This is by far the best vehicle I have ever owned.

I owned it for almost 17 years. Even though I bought a new car several years ago, I kept this truck because there was nothing wrong with it, and it was so reliable.

Unfortunately it was totaled in an accident. I received almost $4000 (Bluebook value) in settlement... not too bad for a 17 year old truck that I paid $13,500 for back in 1993!

1993 Toyota Pickup 4x4 6 cylinder

Summary:

Great truck; runs well and handles great

Head Gasket is leaking and needs replaced.

General Comments:

Great truck, handles well. Does very well on snow and ice with 4 wheel drive. Seats are not real comfortable.

1993 Toyota Pickup 22RE

Summary:

Toyota should ditch the Tacoma line and go back to building these

Faults:

The Heater A/C Fan speed control is not very reliable. They're using a resistive element to control the speed. Individual speeds can cease to work (currently my number 2 and 3 speeds are dead).

General Comments:

Over-all a very well built little truck. It's just coming around for its first engine overhaul at almost 300,000 miles. there are plenty of after-market parts available if you know where to look, and the lack of these guys in junkyards is a testament to how many are still on the road today. Even burning oil, there is plenty of speed.

If possible find a 4-Runner instrument cluster (with a tachometer, oil pressure, and volt-meter) and front bucket seats (the bench is a little too utilitarian).

Yes, the autos are just as reliable, though performance will suffer slightly. I've driven both and own the manual (a 1994). Go for the automatic if that's what you want--it won't let you down.

I was wondering if I could install a tachometer on a 1992 DLX pick up? if so is it fairly simple or is it something I have to drill some holes and stuff?

Yes it is very easy to is stall a after market tack I installed one on my 1990 toyota pickup. they cost about $36.00 at any local auto parts store and takes about 30 or so minutes to put in.

1993 Toyota Pickup 2WD Short Bed Standard 22RE

Summary:

Dependable

Faults:

No major breakdowns.

General Comments:

The Truck used to be a delivery Truck. Has plenty of miles and runs strong. Seats a bit uncomfortable, but mechanically a strong little truck. Engine was inspected and compression is factory specs for the mileage it has. I have seen these trucks with 300k miles on them.

I have a "93" standard 5 speed P/U with the legendary 22re engine.... Just replaced the timing chain at 145000 miles.. Original plastic guide driver's side completely sheared off and fell into the oil pan. I was told by a mechanic that it broke due to my downshifting habit. Replaced water pump and hoses at the same time. Switched to 10/40 synthetic oil. Have ordered a clutch kit. Makes a squeal noise when starting in 1st. Thought it was a loose belt.

1993 Toyota Pickup DX Extended Cab Four cylinder, 2.4

Summary:

Highly recommend

Faults:

Nothing except for normal wear and tear.

General Comments:

Very reliable and roomy pickup. Used for surf fishing (spent a lot time on the beach and never got stuck) and home maintenance chores.

I've owned a number of pickups (Ford, Mazda before they were Ford, and Dodge) and this truck was the best of all. Hated to sell, but with a new family, an SUV was required.

1993 Toyota Pickup SR5 3.0

Summary:

Toyota trucks are tough as nails

Faults:

Driver-side front axle boot busted. don't know how, but probably my fault.

Seat belts don't retract all the way.

Clutch started to go out when I first purchased it, but it still is working almost flawlessly.

Door locks are worn out and hard to turn.

General Comments:

Toyota's are great trucks to own. I have had mine for almost 5 months and put almost 26000 miles on it, and still it runs like the day I bought it. I would defiantly recomend this truck to anyone who is looking for a truck that handles excellent off and on road.

We purchased our 1992 Toyota pickup SR5 V6 brand new, which now has 79,500 miles on it, been undercoated every year, starts every time; was recalled at 65,000 for a new head gasket, only problem we had was a steel tubing rusted out that go to front brake drums and then I had both of them changed, no other problems since, and the battery in it is still original.
