2014 Toyota Prius II 1.8L hybrid electric

Summary:

Super fuel saver; gets 50+ MPG

Faults:

Nothing has gone wrong with the car. All the features and functions work as received or intended by the manufacturer.

General Comments:

Purchased the Prius in May 2014 with the intent to use it for commuting. I have logged about 6500 as of November 2014, mostly for highway and commuting stop and go traffic type of driving. Got around 53 MPG during the summer months, but now dropped to 50 MPG, which I suspect is because of the change in formulation of gasoline for the winter. At about 5000 miles I took the car in for Toyota care service, under which the dealer performed normal checks and tire rotation, but no oil change (that is scheduled for 10K). The dealer service was professional and completed on time as promised.

Even though the car has the same engine displacement as my 2009 Corolla LE, I find the acceleration is much slower in normal mode -- you can kick it up if you select Sport mode, but what is the point, because the car is for minimizing the gas use.

EV mode works very well while you have the battery charge. The manual says normal use of EV mode would be for parking, but I have used it on stop/go effectively to save gas.

Headroom is more than ample (more than Corolla), and the general fit and finish in/out are outstanding.

I hope to keep the car without much trouble for a long time...

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes
