2012 Toyota Tacoma 2.7 4 cylinder

Summary:

The Tacoma is an excellent value for the price, and is a quality product

Faults:

No problems to report as of yet.

General Comments:

The extra cab has plenty of interior space; two adults can travel in comfort on long trips.

Gas mileage is as expected.

Power is adequate for a 4 cylinder automatic. It does not have the acceleration of a V-6, and passing does take some planning, however once I was used to the power, it is not a problem.

Very smooth and quiet ride, although some resonance from the exhaust is quite noticeable under hard acceleration, but it is not problematic.

The seats are very comfortable, good driver visibility, controls are well laid out, instrument panel is easy to read.

The truck was surprisingly well equipped with many standard features.

The base truck as equipped from the factory, is an excellent value.

The box does not have the capacity, nor can this truck be loaded like a larger, one ton pickup, but it certainly wins in the areas of comfort and fuel economy.

Engine idle quality is excellent for a 4 cylinder; there is some vibration occasionally, but most of the time it is very smooth.

As an owner of a 2011 Tacoma, I just can't understand why anybody would say the seating is comfortable? The seats are just too close to the floor; it's like sitting on the floor itself.

You should have ridden in my 2002 Pontiac Sunfire if you want to sit in seats far too low.

You should sit in our 2002 Viper. We still had to put in a seat lowering kit to drop it 1 inch further. It's low also. But we like it.

I have now had this vehicle for 4 1/2 years, and driven it 160,000km. It performs as well as it did when new. The tires were replaced once, it just recently required a new battery. Earlier this year the fan resistor failed. The only other repairs done was to replace the front brake pads and rotors, not because they wore out, but because I left the vehicle to sit for nearly 6 months outdoors without using it, and they had rusted badly. Certainly not the fault of Toyota.

Otherwise, there has only been scheduled maintenance.
