1999 Volkswagen Beetle GLS? 1.9 TDI turbo diesel

Summary:

It is a fine car

Faults:

I have had issues.

Relay 109 was a problem until I saw it on the web.

Timing belt is much more involved than a wabbit was. I've got to see the dealer man (still looking for the TDI's favorite shop).

Filters, lights, and window / door problems are rather simple.

Starter was easy enough.

Tie rod ends were a simple replacement.

I almost enjoy doing the brakes on this car (I'm certain I should have replaced all of the fluid by now).

Damn good car. Too low.

Picked-up 4 steel wheels (take offs) from a dealer and mounted snow tires on them. This makes an easy switch for winter / summer.

A great car in the snow. Great car in the snow. Car, Snow - Great. That is all from New England.

General Comments:

Ooh, I sure wish I had read ahead.

By the way, I am blown away by the room in this Bug when the back seats are down. Good car, great in the snow HA.

Radio is junk.

Speakers are junk.

Engine is solid and stable.

Spark plugs are a hassle to change.

Excellent Factory Paint.

Seats are somewhat uncomfortable.

General Comments:

Overall the car is Cute.

Strong Body and good engine.

Nice car to run at ease.

Engine sounds good up to 65MPH. After that it seems it's going to blow up.

1999 Volkswagen Beetle 2.0

Summary:

Bugs suck!!!

Faults:

Well first off, when I got the car, the dealer sold me a lemon. I had a lot of problems as soon as I got it.

The first problem was that the car would not shift out of park.

In the year that I have had it, the paint has peeled off on the inside door panels.

The driver side window fell into the door, and I had to have the window regulator replaced.

The speakers blew.

The trunk only opens half the time.

The air only blows cold when you are moving.

The alarm goes off, even when you put the key in the ignition.

Since my car is white I call it Herbie.

The interior lights go on and off at random times.

Cruise control broke.

It sucks a lot of oil and more gas than what you think it takes; more than $40.00 to fill up the tank.

My boyfriend is a mechanic and he hates to work on my car. He says everything is hard to reach, and everything is so complicated. I guess I should be lucky he doesn't charge me labor.

General Comments:

It handles well and the interior is really roomy.

I love my beetle... you must have just gotten a bad defective one. I just got my 1999 beetle and it runs great, and still looks great! Just general repairs on a 10 year old car... but no complaints here.
