2000 Volkswagen Beetle GLX 1.9 tdi

Faults:

Engine shuts off unexpectedly when have the AC on..or even the radio.

Electronic control unit was replaced.

VW replaced the ABS system..due to the recall on this year..2001..but soon after, another problem occurred..they replaced the seat belt sensor..

Now, my 2 year warranty on the beetle is up, and I'm having more problems than ever with this car. Within the past couple of days, notices that whenever I try to accelerate to a different speed, the car shudders, and drops back in speed. Also, the ABS light flashes infrequently. I'm trying to sell this car..because I'm just sick of vw in general..would strongly advise people to never lease from vw..and read all reviews on the cars they're thinking about buying.

The fuel sensor went bad..reset the fuse..it works OK..for now.

Car would stick in gears..would not get out of park..vw dealership replaced the brake light switch..

General Comments:

Would tell people who are thinking of leasing from vw: DON'T!! You get stuck in one of the worst leases..and all that money you just paid goes for nothing.

2000 Volkswagen Beetle

Summary:

This car is a bad deal

Faults:

The engine was replaced at 32,000 miles, due to major oil loss and other fluids leaking into the oil.

The new engine leaks oil.

Rear brake calipers are bad, causing me to replace the pads early.

Driver side window does not work in the winter. Therefore, I either don't use it or I take it in for repair every year.

Hatch door doesn't always unlatch.

The interior door handles are peeling.

In very cold temperatures, the dashboard clicks like the turn signal is on, when its not.

General Comments:

It is a fun car to drive. Although, I am so sad that it was poorly engineered.

Thank God I bought the extended warranty.

I have had VW's for ten years, but no more. I am a Toyota lover now.

I had my engine replaced at around 30,000 miles. The water pump failed and caused the engine to overheat. The problem with these car are 2 things:

1. There is no engine temperature gauge, thus if probs occur, then its too late to notice.

2. The dealers are so unhelpful. They are not interested in your problem, they just want to sell you a new (overpriced) car.

2000 Volkswagen Beetle

Summary:

Without a free extended warranty covering their parts only, I'd not offer ye a 100 for the Beetle

Faults:

The sun/moon roof wouldn't open, a piece was still in it from manufacture, had to take to dealer to have piece removed.

Trunk latch: worked sometimes

Gas latch: broke twice, wouldn't open.

Key's supplied by dealer for electric door unlocks quit working two months into lease, called dealer and for 160.00 we could have two new ones, still manually opening doors.

Power window switches have failed four times, been to shop four times to replace, 1st time there cost, 2nd time they pay for part we paid for labor, 3rd & 4th time we paid for both.

Engine light comes on and off.

General Comments:

It's great on gas and a cute car.

I have seen multiple complaints about the VW Beetle and we all seem to have the same problems, is their anyway we can get reimbursed for the repairs we've had to pay for on parts that are apparently defective on a multitude of beetles?
