2001 Volkswagen Cabrio GLX gas

Summary:

Great convert with some bugs, but great service!

Faults:

We bought 2 2001 cabrios and have had exactly the same problems with each! However the VW dealer has been much more service oriented than our previous dealers. Mufflers rear and mid replaced, engine control lites redone 3 or 4 times, door handles replaced, and radio codes redone. Heating system in -35 below celsius and a/c in 30 degrees above celsius both excellent, great converts; yes I would buy more!! Signed Patient Driver!!

2001 Volkswagen Cabrio

Summary:

Worst care ever made, do not buy!!!

Faults:

5 new starters in past TWO years.

Two new ignition switches.

New exhaust system.

New breaks.

Trunk will not open half of the time.

"alarm" if that is what you want to call it, goes off for no reason at all times.

General Comments:

DO NOT BUY THIS CAR. I cannot even begin to tell you the nightmare that has been my Cabrio. I have cried tears over this car MANY times. Of course all of these problems happened after my two year warranty was up and I had to pay for it on my own. Volkswagen is NO help in anyway. I have been on the phone with them over and over again trying to get out of this lease because it is such a lemon - or at least I thought it was a lemon until hearing other stories from other people with Volkswagens about their "lemons". VOLKSWAGON SUUUUUUUCCCCCKKKKSSSS. I have heard nothing, but complaints about this car never mind the entire line of cars that they have. DO NOT BUY!!! I had to turn in my car early and now I am paying the price. I had to file bankruptcy because trying to maintain the repairs kept putting me farther and farther behind in my bills. I have put close to $6000 into my LEASED CABRIO in TWO years - which I got because I have always wanted one. Dream car??? Yea right.

2001 Volkswagen Cabrio GL

Summary:

Extremely disappointing and unreliable

Faults:

Exhaust dead at 37,000 miles from the Cat back.

"Plastic piece" broken inside steering wheel 4 times and fixed 4 times.

Contact ring in steering wheel replaced.

Wrong engine control module installed.

"Ghost code" in engine control module.

Transmission problems.

Brake discs rubbing metal on metal.

General Comments:

I have never had a car lacking in quality like my 2001 Cabrio. I have had poor quality cars before, but I paid for poor quality in my Tracker and my Sundance. But I drove those cars a lot longer than my VW and never had nearly as many problems that I am having now. I bought my car in Sept. of 2001 and it has been in the shop at least 20 times since I bought it. Volkswagen of America has helped me out a little bit with fixing the issues of this car, but since it is constantly back in the shop I have asked for either a replacement or I want to return it. I am extremely disappointed in the quality of this car. It's too bad because it's so gosh darn cute.

2001 Volkswagen Cabrio GLX

Summary:

Nice car...Problems??? So far a few

Faults:

So far I've had this car for about a year and have driven it only 3000 miles. I have had it at the dealer 3 times already. The first time the battery died and the car wouldn't run properly and kept stalling. The dealer was great. The battery had died and the car lost it's "memory" and needed to be reprogrammed. Everything has been good with that problem so far. It didn't cost me a dime, just aggravation of having a car 2 weeks old & back at the dealer.

The second time I brought it in it was not idling properly. They did not charge me to look at it, but they said it was common to need new spark plugs, which they wanted $200. for & I opted against it.

The third time it's currently in the shop for??? They are not sure. The engine light came on so I dropped off. I called and they said my brake cables were torn. What does that have to do with the engine light? It's supposedly the air intake valve that is bad. They are checking if it's under warranty. So let's keep our fingers crossed.

General Comments:

I think that if I had these problems with any other new car I would have sold it already. I love the looks and comfort of driving the car, but then again, I'm not used to having a new car. It has good pick up and the options are good. I have the leather interior with heated seats and it's nice in the winter. The top is very easy to work. I'm used to the manual convertible tops. It may be hard for me to rate the car since I don't drive it all that much. It's more of a weekend thing.
