1991 Volkswagen Fox 1.8 ltr

Summary:

Very reliable transportation

Faults:

At this point, all I have had to replace are light bulbs. I have not had anything go majorly wrong with the car, and I put virtually 500+ miles per week on it.

General Comments:

In the short time I have had this car, I have put almost 10,000 miles on it. At this point it has been a very reliable and economic vehicle. I was not looking for a sleek high performance car when I bought my fox. I was looking for reliable transportation for a long commute. I found it.

1991 Volkswagen Fox 1.8

Summary:

Under-appreciated low-cost commuter

Faults:

Front wheel bearing failure.

Thermostat starting to die.

General Comments:

An aged design that nevertheless is a cheap entry into a german marque. Most used examples have been thrashed. Find a good one and the model can be quite reliable. Road noise and handling is bargain basement, although comfortable stock seats, slick gearchange, and excellent visibility out make for a pleasing low-impact driver. Poor quality strut bearings cause owners headaches, whereas switchgear is cheaply-made and subject to failure.
