Faults:

I bought this car from an AutoNation dealer and it had a few problems to begin with.

First, when you put the car into park, you had to pull the hand-brake in order to keep the car from rolling backwards due to a transmission problem.

Cruise-control was inoperative.

Brake light (in top of rear window) would stay on, all the time, regardless of whether or not the brake pedal was depressed.

Dash light was not functional.

Seat-belt would not pull out of door (so I couldn't put it on).

Ignition switch would stick so key could not be removed when necessary.

General Comments:

I love this car. It is beautiful and it drives very smoothly. Too many 'little' problems for the miles. A little frustrating.

I love the features like power door locks, CD changer, 4 spd automatic, fold-down rear seat, power sunroof, etc... for the money.

Don't take the car to a VW dealer for service if you don't have to. I had the worst experience with a dealership in the Dallas area. Don't let this blow the VW rep. for quality. I just had a bad experience. I know many people who have had VERY good experiences with their 'people-cars' and I'm not giving up on that.

Faults:

Engine coil went, needed a transmission at approx. 78,000 miles (still isn't right), radio needed to be replaced, wiper controls burned out at 82,000 miles and dash light needed to be replaced.

General Comments:

The car is a good car, it handles like a dream and I hope my next car handles as well. The engine is weak, and seats could be a little more comfortable, especially on long trips. I just hate the fact that the wiper controls have burned out (I never heard this happening before) on a 1995 vehicle (granted it had 82,000 miles) and the transmission needed to be replaced at 78,000.
