1999 Volkswagen Jetta GLS 2 liter

Summary:

Looks and drives great, till the next monthly repair

Faults:

Check engine light.

Cruise control doesn't work.

Needs new brake rotors and pads with 55k on the car.

Burns oil, running 2.5 liters short and check oil light came on, this happened 2 months ago and it doesn't appear to have a leak. I have to take it to the dealer tomorrow to have checked.

Electrical problem, dome light in trunk burned out, but when replaced still doesn't work.

Rear driver side door doesn't always lock when the others do. Alarm doesn't sound if you open the door.

Radio replacement 5 times- cassette deck still doesn't work.

Air flow on dash doesn't light up when headlights are on.

Glove compartment hinge broken on one side.

Leaks water through door trim when it rains or goes through car wash.

Gas tank cover doesn't lock shut, repaired once under warranty, but broken again.

Doesn't respond to the hand held auto lock/unlock when facing the trunk, I must go to the side of the car and point at the side door to engage it. I had this problem when I originally bought the car and the dealer said that is normal.

General Comments:

I thought a new car would be nice so I wouldn't have to worry about repairs. This car had problems from the get go and each year adds to the pile. I am going to have to sell it before I owe the shop more than I paid for the car. IF I had kept my 92 Honda, it would still be running and with less time in the shop than this 7 year "younger" car.

Summary:

A great reliable car that they need to get all the kinks worked out and fast

Faults:

I have had a lot of the same problems everyone else has had. Right now my jetta is in the shop for a number of things. first of all I have had 2 pretty bad accidents and I have not been injured one bit. The car is extremely safe. on the other hand ever since I have had problem after problem. Right now I am getting over $700 worth of repairs done and that isn't even everything. I am not getting my speedometer fixed that hasn't worked for a year and also am not getting an O2 sensor and Throttle body work done. In addition my rear driver's side window is not working, and last summer I had to replace the motor for the front driver's side window.

I am a huge fan of the new jetta's, but I cannot see myself buying another. Good luck to everyone.

Summary:

Had the car 2 weeks, already a migraine

Faults:

Well I have had this car all of 2 weeks and today is going to be my third time going back to the dealership. Only I think I'm going to have to tow it.

Day One: Check engine light on.

Dealership says "we usually ignore this type of message call, if it comes back on then we will address it".

Day Six: Check engine light back on, driver's side door won't lock when taking off like the rest of them. Car squeaks when going slow over small bumps.

Called the dealership and had to leave a message. Never got back to me.

Day Ten: Alarm stuck on the car, won't start.

I am currently at work and I can't start my car.

Waiting to hear from the dealership. I guess I'm towing it, but keep in mind I am at least 1 hour from the dealership.

I'm thinking this is the worst car and biggest mistake I have ever made. I didn't even need a new car, I only got it because I liked it. Should've stuck with my Stratus. Wish I knew the lemon laws, I would ditch this car right now.
