2001 Volkswagen Jetta 5 speed

Summary:

Cost effective until now

Faults:

I currently drive a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta and have recently noticed that I have to change various bulbs once every 3 months. When I originally purchased the car I did some research and found that Volkswagen had improved upon a reputation that originally labeled the line of vehicles as having serious electrical issues. I am starting to think that those electrical issues might not have been addressed... The bulb issue is strange... One month a headlight, next month a blinker, and then a break light. Granted the vehicle is 4 years old and eminence issues like this can be expected, but when bulbs that have been recently replaced keep going it is reason for concern.

Then, my most recent issue is the trunk. It is consistently releasing as I drive or even park the car. I will be in my driveway and all of a sudden I hear the release noise from the trunk... It has gotten to the point now that I cannot leave anything in my car because I’m afraid the trunk will release and anyone can open the vehicle. I have attempted to contact VW yet because I’m assuming this will be extremely costly and not covered under any sort of warranty. I'm wondering if anyone else has had issues like this.

General Comments:

The vehicle has been good for the most part, but I am worrying now that it is 4 years old and 70,000 miles that I am in for lots of trouble???

70000 miles. 2001 VW Jetta.

You are on borrowed time. Dump that car ASAP, before the repairs empty your bank account.

BTW, this sounds like a bad comfort control module. Could also just be a switch. $100 to $2000 for a repair. Hopefully it is well insured.

2001 Volkswagen Jetta GLX VR6

Summary:

I would not recommend buying a GLX VR6 Jetta, it's a waste of money

Faults:

After first buying the car, my transmission went. $3,000.00.

My driver side window would not go up after putting it down, had to have it replaced. They said the clip had broken.

My radiator was bad. $600.00.

I had to have my coolant line redone at the dealership, then a week after they were suppose to have replaced it, my engine blew up so I had to replace my engine. $690.00 Coolant line $5965.00 for Engine.

The heater coil has gone out in my car so now I have to rely on my heated seats in the winter. The cost of that is $1500.00 but I just don't have the money to fix it after all my other problems with the car.

Fuses are constantly going out.

My dash light has gone out. I thought I would be an easy fix by replacing the bulb. I was surprised to hear from the dealership it is a $500.00 fix.

Gas has to be at least 91 grade so I have to put premium unleaded in my car at all times.

Lights are always coming on the dash.

General Comments:

I am very disappointed with this car and I don't think I'll ever buy a Volkswagen again. If my loan wasn't upside down I would have traded it in by now.

All these prices you gave are very high. I've been fixing my car and it cost me very very lower than your prices.

2001 Volkswagen Jetta

Summary:

Very good looking car, seems to have a lot of mechanical issues

Faults:

Front bumper keeps popping off.

Vinyl is tearing apart inside.

Engine light came on today.

Crayon smell in the car whenever the air is on.

Grinding noise when turning.

Brakes already wore out.

General Comments:

I can't believe all the problems everyone is having and how similar they are to the ones I have. I owned a 96 Camaro before this car, bought brand new, and had fewer problems in the 9 years I owned it than I have in the 9 months I have owned this car. I am scared to death to see what the problem is when I go to the Volkswagen dealership today.
