2001 Volkswagen Jetta GLS 1.8T

Summary:

A whole lot of car for a little bit of money

Faults:

The car plows in to corners at higher speeds, this means that the front that is taking all the force in the turn dips down and feels like you are plowing snow.

The floor mats are not stain resistant and mark very easily.

The engine is turbo charged, but it doesn't come with an inter-cooler. This makes for a larger lag and rush in the turbo.

General Comments:

For all intensive purposes this is a great car. Very quick, great stopping power and distance, the inside of the car is really set up for the driver, trunk space as usual in the Volkswagens is huge, and most of all its very easy to maintain and very reliable.

I've heard that the VW's didn't get turbo lag because of the way the car was designed. I was told that the car is always ready with extra air pressure for whenever you needed it. Also, that putting in one of those blow off valves would possibly cause turbo lag.

2001 Volkswagen Jetta GX 1.8T

Summary:

Great car, highly recommended

Faults:

Two relatively minor problems, and one recall:

The cup holder sticks when the ambient temperature is below 4C. Will wait for the fall to have that fixed.

A flake of paint fell off of the right side rocker panel. Quickly fixed by the dealer and entire rocker panel repainted.

General Comments:

A tremendously well-engineered car, and the 1.8T goes like mad.

Dealer experience was excellent, salesman didn't run-down the other vehicles we were looking at, just said.." those are good choices... let me show you the features of this car", and spent the next 30 minutes doing just that.

When it came time for delivery the CD player hadn't been installed... he came back into the dealership, handed us the cheque back and said; "I can't sell you this car until it's the way you want it" and proceeded to throw in floor mats, trunk carrier, and maintenance kit because we had to wait an extra day.

Only fault is the black interior... every little piece of lint shows up.

2001 Volkswagen Jetta GLS

Summary:

A problem waiting to happen

Faults:

Front drivers side window regulator failed causing window to fall into door.

Front Passenger side window regulator failed causing window to fall into door.

Front driver side floor mat mounts broke resulting in a floor mat that slides up under the brake pedal.

Intermittent staring problems.

Radio reception is weak.

General Comments:

There is a reason that VW focuses on their customer service when you buy a vehicle from them. Due to the lack of durability of the car you will get very familiar with they staff.

Our Jetta has been in the shop several times and most of the time the dealership has covered the cost of the repair. However they always seem to find some mysterious damage to the car, that usually costs us about the same as what the covered repair would cost.

I have tried to take the Jetta to another mechanic, but he told me that most of the repairs require specialty tools that he does not have and recommends that I take it to the dealership.

My friend had at 2000 GTI with the same problem. He had to have it fixed 4 times fortunatly under warranty. The last time they installed improved parts and the problem has gone away.

2001 Volkswagen Jetta GLS 2.6 Liter

Summary:

An overall beautifully engineered auto

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

This is a wonderful car. It drives well on long road trips. It can handle minute offroad such as gravel roads with no pits in the road. Very quiet and sturdy well engineered auto. Has standard McPherson struts so you can go around a corner and the car will balance itself out.

Awesome sound system by Monsoon which has 6 speakers plus tweeders and I had the 6 disc compact disc changer added in trunk. Lots of space when you hop on in. Has lots of luxury features that most compact sedans don't have, like seat warmers, intermittent wipers, leather is optional, which I decided to go with, I also added 17" alloys with sport package and moon roof, plus cold weather package is added too.

It climbs hills with no problem.
