2001 Volkswagen Jetta GLS VR6
Summary:
Expensive to fix, lots of issues with Jettas, and I don't recommend them to anyone!
Faults:
Let's see, I bought this car from a private seller in July of 2008 with 96000 miles on it.
A couple days after buying it, we started to notice that when the car was in drive, but we're stopped at a light or something, the car pulses. We have taken it in to VW dealerships to have them look it over, and they always find nothing is wrong.
About two weeks after buying the car, our trunk latch broke, and took that in to get replaced.
Four months after purchasing it, the car was shifting funny, so we took it in again and they told us the spark plugs and wires were bad. But only a year later (current date) we were having the same problem again. We once again took it in, and the spark plugs and wires were bad once again. So we replaced them, but the car is still acting up. When you put it into drive and start to take off, the car shifts very roughly. Not only that, but when you put it on cruise control, it speeds up and pulses really bad, randomly.
Something is wrong with our car, other than spark plugs and wires, but every time we take it to a shop, they tell us nothing is wrong, but have failed to even take it on a test drive.
This car is very frustrating, and we still have no answers on these problems. If you can give us any information, or if you have the same problems, please help me. I can't afford to keep taking it in to have them tell me nothing is wrong, when there clearly is!
General Comments:
This car is so cute and rides amazing.
It blocks out sounds so good, and is great in that aspect.
But maintenance and overall dependability is HORRIBLE!
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? No

If you are going to go through all that trouble with it, buy a "used" engine with significantly less miles, and it will work well; that's what I did.
I've owned it for 2 years, and have tricked it out with body kits and a spoiler, rims, underglow, subwoofers, radio, and everything that broke, I replace completely. It may be that I work with cars for a living, but this is quite easy to maintain, though high maintenance.

Some free advice.
You should get rid of that lemon before it bankrupts you. Even if you find out what is causing the engine problem, and fix it, something else is bound to show up.
Most vehicles, even reliable ones, will have components start to wear out after 100,000 miles. Keeping a vehicle with a history of problems after that point is just asking for trouble.
Research your next vehicle, through sites like this and Consumer Reports, BEFORE buying next time. That way you don't end up with another car that is cute and rides nice, but is unreliable.
