2002 Volkswagen Jetta 1.8 turbo

Summary:

This is an AWFUL car, get rid of it as fast as you can

Faults:

Drivers side window fell down.

Passenger side window fell down.

Bumper pulled off.

Bumper pulled off (it sits entirely too low and if you pull up too close to any parking space, it will pull PLASTIC cover off)

Fault for Engine Coolant Temperature; Replaced Sensor.

Door Ajar Light came on while driving, replaced drivers side door latch.

Remove and install engine coolant temperature sensor. (same as before)

Brake light switch was bad and needed a replacement.

Malfunction in cooling system fault.

Replace the ABS control module and pump.

EPC light on.

General Comments:

This car is awful. I love the way it drives, but it is constantly in the shop, nothing is covered under warranty and their customer service is horrible. I will NEVER buy another VW and have told all my friends to steer clear as well. Though it's a cute car, and it handles well, that means nothing when you have to put every cent of your paycheck into fixing it every month. I just got the car back from the dealer (where they were "fixing" more electrical problems) and I had the EPC light come on LITERALLY 30 minutes after leaving. Volkswagen does not care about their customers or the quality of their product.

I was just wondering how much it cost to replace the faulty temperature sensor? I think mine is going out... and was just wondering how much this kind of thing usually costs?

2002 Volkswagen Jetta GLS 1.8 T

Summary:

This car is quick, reliable and fun to drive

General Comments:

This is the second VW jetta that my wife and I have owned. We loved the first one and had absolutely no problems with it. We sold it only to regret it. We bought our current jetta used (55,000 miles on it) and put 35,000 miles on it so far all with no problems. The car is fast, suspension is tight and is simply a joy to drive! Very important since we commute 95 miles (round trip) every day. Aside from basic maintenance we haven't had to do any thing to the car. If you want a well built, reliable car that is fun to drive then I highly recommend buying this car.

2002 Volkswagen Jetta 4-door sedan TDI

Summary:

Economical, comfortable, not quiet enough, sturdy

Faults:

The radio suddenly stopped working -- just like other people have written about. I tried the fuse 42 trick and that didn't work. Then I went back with the idea of pulling out and re-inserting all the fuses. That's when I realized that the bottom row of fuses in my car doesn't have but one fuse, so I wasn't counting that row. When I recounted and tried the correct fuse 42, the radio worked again! Somebody out there is a genius. I guess it rebooted or something.

General Comments:

This is really my father's car. He is 94 and has been very hard on the car, although he has been meticulous about maintaining it. I think it is smashed in on every side but one, and he had to replace the engine after driving over something and ripping off the oil pan. It has more dog hair in it than the NY SPCA. Fortunately, he has quit driving. I am really astonished at how everything works perfectly (except the radio, now repaired after the fuse 42 trick). Must be a tough car!

2002 Volkswagen Jetta 1.8T

Summary:

Overall, the car is good, but this problem outweighs my overall satisfaction

Faults:

I have water leaking from the visors on both the driver's and passenger's side of my car. I also get about 2 inches of water in the passenger's side floor after a heavy rain.

General Comments:

I am glad to hear that I am not the only one. I guess I will wait until Volkswagen admits fault and issues a recall for these irritating and troublesome malfunctions.

2002 Volkswagen Jetta

Faults:

The engine blew at 95,704 miles.

General Comments:

Has anyone had trouble with the engine? After bringing in the car for an oil leak, that wasn't found, the engine blew do to lack of oil. I had added oil, but the dealer found nothing wrong. The 2nd time I had it towed in they did find that oil was leaking through the rings and ruined the engine.

It was going to cost over $6,000 to repair. needless to say I said and bought a Sonata. I would like to hear from anyone that had any problems with the engine. richardmed@cox.net.
