1984 Volkswagen Scirocco 2.0

Summary:

Best car I've ever had or will have

Faults:

Nothing, least of all major repairs, in 12 years.

General Comments:

Hands down the best car I've ever had. And, there was some stiff competition.

Reliable to the point that it was eerie. Felt nearly indestructible even toward the end. I've had Saabs, Volvos and Peugeots, all noted for longevity. They were all great cars but still couldn't hold a candle to this pocket wonder.

The only repair ever was a corroded thermoswitch cable. This wasn't even her fault - the battery leaked.

1984 Volkswagen Scirocco Wolfsburg 1.8

Summary:

Great little sports car

Faults:

New down pipe from exhaust manifold to cat.

New fuel pump.

Replace rocker cover gasket.

Seat cover for drivers side.

Need to fix passenger power window as it is not working.

Nor are the power mirrors. (but then who cares whats behind you)

General Comments:

I have always wanted one of these cars, a buddy had an 76 Rocco that was a blast to drive. This was a well maintained car by the previous owner, K&N air filter, synthetic oil, Fram oil filter, lowered 1 inch, 215 60's, high end paint job (Mars Red) all over including the under carriage and engine bay. Unfortunately he let the body go a bit and there is now a little rust showing it's ugly head. Will have to jump on it right away.

This car is an absolute thrill to drive, the tranny's close ratio and the firm suspension make it yearn for twisting two lane blacktops. The acceleration out of this little engine is amazing, I used to have a 2.2l turbo MX6, this thing would have no problem staying with it.

I would like to see if I can can squeeze a little more out of it, but I don't think I go too crazy.

1984 Volkswagen Scirocco 1.8

Summary:

I love this car

Faults:

The fan switch went out, but it was cheaply and easily replaced.

The exhaust rattles like crazy.

General Comments:

The car is still running fine on the original clutch at 250,000 miles, it rarely slips.

It can be a little sluggish in terms of acceleration, but it handles exceptionally. There is no power steering, which can be a struggle in parking lots, but you can feel the road better than any other car I have driven.

Very comfortable seating.

This car is incredibly reliable, very few things have gone wrong other than general maintenance.

My scirocco is generally easy to work on, but some parts of the engine compartment are cramped.

1984 Volkswagen Scirocco GL 1.8 gasloine

Summary:

A car for the sporty person with a low budget

Faults:

When I first got the car it had a cracked rear tail lens and the liner around the sun roof was starting to come undone. But that was quickly and easily replaced by some glue and a new tail lens which cost close to nothing.

General Comments:

This is a very good car and is very cheap to repair, run and maintain. The seats are very comfortable and the stereo system that was factory installed works like a dream. It handles very well. It is the fastest you can go at 55 miles per hour (the top speed is NOT 55mph however).
